CSE 2221 Software I: Software Components and CSE 2231 Software II: Software Development and Design 7 January 2020 OSU CSE 1
Welcome to CSE 2231! • Class attendance is required . • You will be allowed 4 lecture absences and 4 lab absences; any missed classes over this limit will result in a 0.5-point deduction from your total score for each absence. The first 4 labs and the first 4 lectures missed may affect class participation, but after that, missing a lab or a lecture—for any reason— will cost 0.5 points. • Any class missed can have an impact on class participation. Class attendance is a necessary—but not sufficient—condition for full class participation credit. • We’ll experiment with Top Hat to take class attendance. 7 January 2020 OSU CSE 3
Welcome to CSE 2231! • Starting with Project 2 and Lab 4, you must work in pairs. It is not optional . It is not open to debate . You will have to work on labs together and you will be able to only submit one project solution per pair. • You have a few days to find a partner. If you don’t find one, I will assign one (even if you are not in class at the time). Piazza can be used to search for a partner: make sure you specify your section. • Project 1 is assigned now and due on the due date, 1 hour before class. It must be done individually . Homeworks must also be done individually. (Homework 1 is due tomorrow) 7 January 2020 OSU CSE 4
Welcome to CSE 2231! • If you are retaking the class you cannot use any of the work you have done in a previous offering (but you are allowed to reuse any of your own work from CSE 2221). • Do not post any of your coursework to publicly accessible web sites. • Before you can leave a lab, your team must have an instructor check your work. • Lack of knowledge of any course policies is never a valid excuse for not following them. 7 January 2020 OSU CSE 5
Welcome to CSE 2231! • Homework assignments will be submitted through Carmen. • They must be typed and converted in PDF format. • Graded out of 2 points: 1 point for "adequate effort" in preparing the content, and 1 point for style/presentation. 7 January 2020 OSU CSE 6
Welcome to CSE 2231! • Everyone should complete the Eclipse Setup (Windows) instructions today. Even those who plan to do their projects on their own computer. • On your own computer, make sure to start with a brand new, fresh copy of the workspace template from http://web.cse.ohio-state.edu/software/common/OsuCseWsTemplate.zip and a new copy of the component library from http://web.cse.ohio-state.edu/software/common/components.jar . 7 January 2020 OSU CSE 7
Welcome to CSE 2231! • If when you start Eclipse you do not have a project called ProjectTemplate in the Package Explorer view, you are using the wrong workspace. • There is no way to fix the wrong workspace. • The only fix is to open the workspace you downloaded from http://web.cse.ohio-state.edu/software/common/OsuCseWsTemplate.zip 7 January 2020 OSU CSE 8
