CPD Presentation to Derbyshire Branch 8 th November 2011 Carol Husband, UK and Europe Membership Manager
CPD What is CPD? CPD is continuing professional development • It is the means by which individuals maintain, improve and broaden their knowledge and skills and develop the personal qualities required in their professional lives • A commitment to structured skills enhancement and personal or professional competence • CPD can be defined as the conscious updating of professional knowledge and the improvement of professional competence throughout a person's working life. It is a commitment to being professional, keeping up to date and continuously seeking to improve. It is the key to optimising a person's career opportunities, both today and for the future (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (2000)).
CPD Why are we doing it? • Members / stakeholders are demanding it • Branch strategic review 2009-10 • If procurement / supply chain management is to be seen as a serious profession / licence to practice, we need to drive CPD • membership retention
