  5. Academic Leveling Academic levels are based on teacher recommendation from middle school teachers. There are 4 levels: • Seminar (Math) or Integrated (English/Social Studies) • Honors • Advanced • College Prep • Your teacher understands your child’s: • Abilities, interests, and work habits Levels are continually reevaluated

  11. Essentials Courses Courses which offer a specific curriculum for skill building in the areas of math, reading, writing, and studying. Essentials courses are recommended by teachers. These courses are considered electives.

  12. Algebra 1 Keystone Course This course will be added to a students schedule in place of a study hall or elective if the student does not score proficient on the Algebra 1 Keystone. This course is mandatory remediation and cannot be overridden. It is a graduation requirement to pass the Keystone Exams for the Class of 2022 and beyond

Career & Technical Education at DCTS RHS participates in career and technical education Core classes (English, Social Studies, Math and Science) are completed at RHS DCTS courses are scheduled on a half-day basis. Their programs include: Logistics and Transportation Construction Technology Health and Biosciences Hospitality, Tourism and Human Services Engineering and Computer Science

  14. Annual Credit Requirement Minimum of 6.5 credits Schedules with more credits are the norm • 7 – 7.5 credits • Competitive colleges • Advanced coursework in Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies • World Languages • Most colleges require at least 2 years

Parents & Students Upcoming dates continued • Tuesday, February 19th-22nd, students will be selecting electives with their guidance counselor. • Students will need to know their personal HAC accounts to select electives. Mr. Diehl will be available to answer any questions during this time. • No changes can be made after Wednesday, May 15, 2019

  16. Course Selection Timeline January 28th to February 15th • Teachers enter recommendations February 19th to 22nd (ends 3 pm) • Students select electives February 25th • All teacher recommendations visible February 25th to March 8th • Guidance Counselors review schedules with students

  17. Parents Look through the Program of Studies together Help students before February 22nd decide on at least 5 elective options. Reach out to Mr. Diehl with any questions or concerns
