At HCI our assessments are outcome based. What is an outcome?

Outcomebased education bases each part of student learning around goals (outcomes). There is no single specified style of teaching or assessment. Instead, classes, opportunities, and assessments should all help students achieve the specified outcomes.

Student Assessments “Our school promotes the pursuit of excellence in an environment that encourages lifelong learning and respect for self and others.”

  • A. All teachers have explicit assessment policies for their classes, and

communicate this policy with all of their students. These policies are on all course outlines.

  • B. All staff incorporate an intervention plan.

This plan must include the following:

  • i. Provide students with an opportunity for additional support for learning

and/or assessment completion.

  • ii. Use a variety of ways to contact the student’s parents in effort to

engage them as partners to support their student’s learning.

  • iii. Contact student services for helpful student information and/or the

potential of additional support for the student in need.

  • iv. Incorporate teacher initiated student achievement interventions earlier

in the teaching/learning cycle.

  • C. All staff must inform administration if they feel that a student’s attendance

patterns are negatively affecting student achievement.

  • D. All assessments must have clear DUE DATES.

Putting an "INC" does not change their overall mark. ("DONE", "N/A", "EXC", and "OMIT" have the same effect but different meanings)
