  4. ENERGY- 1 MW BATTERY STORAGE Fully installed and operational as of January 2018 • Has already won two awards: • 2 nd place at Toro Tank Competition • 2018 Smart Energy Decisions Innovation • Award (Onsite Renewable Energy Category) Provides significant peak demand savings & grid • reliability.

  5. WATER- UTILITY ASSESSMENTS Met with Cal Water before the winter break  Scheduling meeting for Cal Water and West Basin (reclaimed)- potential irrigation assessment, rebates, and  retrofit programs.

  6. RECYCLING UPDATE- EXTERIOR RECYCLING Sustainability Assessment Findings (Waste Sort  component): NSM (with recycling dumpster): even without active publicity  & education, surprisingly good diversion and low contamination rate SBS (without recycling dumpster, on the way): almost 75% of  the trash is recyclable. Optimistic about results once recycling dumpster is delivered! Exterior Recycling:  Mostly labeled/three-bin system- landfill, mixed recycling, cans  & bottles Dumpsters almost all in place: NSM, Theater, LCH, Extended  Ed, CDC/ITC; SBS on the way. GEO 420 assistance (recycling evaluation as part of  service-learning requirement)

  7. RECYCLING UPDATE- INTERIOR RECYCLING More bins are clearly needed  Coca Cola and CALL grant for this were declined.  PepsiCo still TBD  Looking into CalRecycle resources and evaluating final counts  Rubbermaid assessment (just last week)  Working on streamlining centralized locations on each  floor and picking out a common design that functions well and looks good. Data is power: sustainability assessments, Rubbermaid rep  (quotes/cost), Recycling Coordinator maps/floorplans.

  8. RECYCLING UPDATE- EDUCATION & OUTREACH New Sustainability campus-wide e-mail address in the works  Recycling guidance will be the first order of business (locations, accepted materials, etc.)  March Race to Reduce: week 1 (March 5 and 8, recycling sort activity, railing in front of LSU)  Some guidance in New Employee Orientation (Green Guides)  Working on trying to get training into New Student Enrollment  Applying for division grant to go to each department  PepsiCo Grant would also provide paid student interns to go door to door. 

  9. CAMPUS FARM UPDATE WRPI Internship- paid intern provided, CALL Grant awarded  Cabinet Meeting Review for final approval (Monday) 

  10. ACADEMICS Currently Scheduled:  CHEM 108 – Energy Efficiency 101 lecture and tour of Central Plant  GEO 420- Recycling presentation and GIS project to map recycling bins  Pending:  Central Plant Tour for Sports Management Class  Others?  Garden Syllabus Workshop & Academic Working Group Lunch – February 9, 11am-1pm @ Faculty Dev Center  Attend one or the other or both, RSVP here: https://csudhsustainabilitycurriculum.eventbrite.com  Also plan to reach out to the Academic Senate to get on agenda for upcoming meeting. 

  11. AASHE STARS REPORTING UPDATE Majority of questions left involve institutional stats, academic structure/research questions, OH&S, and Dining  (March 2 nd deadline for consideration for STARS, Princeton Review, and Sierra Cool Schools rankings). Looking at end of semester submittal, or postponing if information gaps are too great to get a ranking.  Challenges include: institutionalizing best practices into policy documents, aligning information gathering with current  reporting and data, and completing projects that are in progress (i.e. sustainability report, Tree Campus USA, etc.) Academic Inventory (draft) complete: ~5% of undergraduate courses and 1% of graduate courses integrate  sustainability and/or are sustainability courses. Discuss further with Academic Working Group at meeting on February 9 and engage Academic Senate in  February. Will post draft of inventory on website. 

  12. WORKING GROUP UPDATES Identified Topics:  Sustainable Landscape Working Group- meeting on Thursday, feedback already being integrated in new Housing project.  Academic Infusion/Faculty Working Group  February 9 meeting to discuss AASHE STARS academic inventory findings.  Follows February 9 meeting to discuss garden curriculum  Both events at Faculty Development Center (11-noon, noon-1pm): RSVP here (https://csudhsustainabilitycurriculum.eventbrite.com)  Earth Day Working Group  Committee meets 1 st Wednesdays, 1pm at SLICE Conference Room- Next meeting is Wednesday, February 7 @ 1pm.  Space (East and West Walkways) already booked for Thursday, April 19, 2018.  Sign up with and/or reach out to Ellie Perry at eperry@csudh.edu or call x2303 
