Standardized Assessment Results: Spring 2019 Administration Measuring College and Career Readiness Middletown Township Public School District September 25, 2019 1
Middletown Township Standardized Assessments 2019-2020 Middletown Township Public Schools have adopted several types of ● standardized assessments in order to adequately measure and monitor student progress against grade level/end of course standards in order to inform instruction, assist in setting personal learning goals, and identify areas in need of intervention as well as enrichment. Please visit the District’s website for more information regarding the ● specific types of standardized assessments used during the 2019-2020 school year- click here. 2
Reminder: Changes to Statewide Assessments ● The State ended its membership of interstate consortium that produced the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College & Careers (PARCC) assessments. ● Effective Spring 2019, the New Jersey Statewide Assessments were called: ○ New Jersey Student Learning Assessments-ELA (NJSLA-ELA) ○ New Jersey Student Learning Assessment-Mathematics (NJSLA-M) ● The new NJSLA Assessments time and length of tests were reduced from the prior PARCC Assessments: ○ ELA units were reduced from three to two (75 to 90 minutes less overall) ○ Fewer testing blocks in Mathematics (60 to 90 minutes less overall)
Additional Changes to Statewide Assessments ● High School students were required to take four assessments instead of six: ELA 9 & 10 and End of Course Mathematics in 9th & 10th grade. ● Students are required to take and pass ELA 10 and Algebra I or demonstrate proficiency through the approved alternate menu of assessment options, e.g. ACT, SAT, ASVAB, or Accuplacer, as a graduation requirement. ● In order to utilize one of the alternate options listed above, students must participate and earn a score on the ELA 10 and Algebra I assessments.
IMPORTANT APPLICATIONS OF STANDARDIZED TEST DATA ● Examine current programs and curricula to determine any strengths and weaknesses that may exist based on trends in the data. ■ Possible gaps in content coverage ■ Evaluate rigor of our learning opportunities and assessment practices ■ Implications for grades K to 2 Allows for teacher self-reflection of current practices and curricula implementation ● based on trends in data. Identify and plan for remediation of deficits in students’ growth toward meeting grade ● level/course expectations as well as enrichment for students exceeding expectations. Assist in differentiation of instruction, e.g. inform strategy and small group instruction. ● Personalize learning for individual students, as they collaborate with teachers to set ● goals based on collective assessment/performance data. Inform each Learning Design Team’s analysis and development of school-specific goals. ● 6
