PURPOSE OF CODE ENFORCEMENT • To preserve a high quality of life throughout the community through safe and sanitary living conditions and positive images. • The mission of the Code Enforcement Division is to serve our citizens by ensuring compliance with the city's municipal codes: providing effective public contact and education, building cooperative partnerships throughout our community, and when necessary, enforcing the regulations in an equitable and impartial manner.
2017 Code Enforcement Report • The following report is from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017. A total of 1,473 violations were issued including Mobile Home Parks (MH-1). • A total of 1,211 violations were issued in 2017 excluding MH-1 with a compliance rate of 99%. *MH-1 excluded due to re-inspections not scheduled until January 2018.

WEEDS • Weeds in excess of 8” are a violation. • All weeds on property must be cut all the way to the curb and or edge of pavement and to the center of the alley and disposed of properly

LITTERING • Private property shall at all times, maintain the premises free of litter, trash, garbage or refuse. • It shall be unlawful to keep or store any construction materials unless such materials are covered or secured to prevent such materials from being blown, scattered about or otherwise moved.

INOPERABLE VEHICLES • An inoperable motor vehicle not located in a garage or other building shall be placed in an effectively screened outdoor storage area in the rear or side yard of such private property.

VACANT/ABANDONED PROPERTIES Since the Vacant/Abandoned Property list started in 2016 a total of 24 houses have been renovated or demolished. There are currently 29 properties on the list with 4 currently under contract and new ownership.

KEEP CAÑON CLEAN PROGRAM • Code Enforcement started a Fall Cleanup Program that ran from November 14 until December 23. It consisted of vouchers for the disposal of tires and TVs. • A total of 100 tire vouchers were distributed with 56 vouchers being redeemed. A total of 185 tires were recycled with Cañon City Tire. • A total of 50 TV vouchers were distributed with 34 vouchers being redeemed with Twin Enviro.
KEEP CAÑON CLEAN TEAM • Code Enforcement’s Keep Cañon Clean Team program consists of recruiting volunteers • The program would run from May to August • Volunteers would be weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. • Required to wear a “Keep Cañon Clean Team” safety vest. • Leave courtesy door hangers at a residence. • Not be issuing an actual Notice of Violation.
