What is a Golf Handicap? • A numerical measure of a golfer’s potential ability • It allows players of different proficiency to play against each other on somewhat equal terms

Establishing a Handicap • Join the Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) through a golf club by paying $36 for a 1-year membership (Jan. 1 thru Dec. 31) • Play a minimum of 5 rounds of 18 holes (or 10 rounds of 9 holes) • Post those rounds to establish an Index

What is an Index? • Your Index is not your Handicap • Index is calculated by the USGA Golf Handicap and Information Network (GHIN) and is an average of ten games of your last 20 games posted • Your index is updated twice a month by SCGA/GHIN and emailed to you

Index to Handicap Conversion • Your Index is converted to your Handicap – Varies from course to course and also from which tees you are playing • Go to GHIN.com Course Handicap Calculator to convert your Index to your Handicap – Enter your Index and the slope of the course you are playing

Posting Scores • Go to http://ghin.com – Click on the Post Scores tab – Enter GHIN number and last name – Input date of play – Input number of holes played – Select golf course played – Select tee location (Gold, Silver, etc.) – Input score (Equitable Stroke Control)
