Choosing Elective Classes for 2020-21 JOIN 7 TH OR 8 TH GRADE CHOIR!!! Choir is a year long class that gives students the chance to sing every day! We learn to read music, understand music markings, sing as a group and sing individually.

Choir is a year long class that gives students the chance to sing every day! ❖ We learn to read music, understand music markings, sing as a group and sing individually. We work together to create talented singers! ❖ We sing many types of music in choir- everything from Imagine Dragons – to Ariana Grande – to Queen as well as Holiday music, and traditional choir music. We even sing some music in other languages.

  4. SPANISH Options ▪ Spanish Fundamentals • 7th grade, year-long, need A or B in ELA ▪ Spanish 1 • 8th grade, year-long, taken for high school credit. Will go on OHS transcript and count in your GPA. ▪ Exploratory Spanish • 8th graders only; introduction to the language and culture; semester-long

FLR I: Family, Consumer Education, Foods Units covered: Family: Types and Stages Challenges Consumer: Budgeting Keeping track of money Foods: Focus on Fruits, Vegetables, Grains FLR 2: Sewing, Foods Units covered: Sewing: Sewing Machine Basics Garment Construction Foods: Focus on Dairy and Proteins

  6. FCS 1: Child Development, Pre-School, Foods Units covered: Child Development: Growth and Development of children Plan a Preschool Lab Foods: Focus on Baked Goods FCS 2: Community Service Sewing, Foods Units covered: Community Service: Sewing Project Foods: Meal Planning

  7. 2D Art (Design) with Mrs. Robinson Explore the use of pencils as a tools; learn how to use line to draw in perspective, to shade using 7 key components (highlight, light values, middle values, dark values, core shadow, cast shadow, and reflected light), learn to apply a wide variety of drawing techniques, and learn how to skillfully utilize various drawing tools. We focus on learning how to draw what you SEE, not what you KNOW.

  8. 3D Art (Sculpture) with Mrs. Robinson D esigned to build on students prior knowledge of three-dimensional art, students may experiment with glass bead making, using MAP gas torches or design Chihuly-inspired sculptures using heat guns. Students weave a coil basket or set of coasters, and even use a circle loom to knit a hat they can wear home! Students will construct a large scale sculpture, using found objects and recyclables, and will have the opportunity to create a cocoa mug with pottery clay. We are always moving full STEAM ahead in room 2113!

  9. Graphics Arts • Learn and use the programs Adobe Photoshop, Graffiti Creator and Google SketchUp to create projects.

  12. Industrial Education 1 and 2 • Provides hands-on wood shop experience. • Learn to read, follow & modify technical plans. • Tool & machine use and safety. • Learn about wood processing and manufacturing. • Ind. Ed. 2 may be taken after successful completion of 1. • Semester-long classes.

  13. Industrial Technology • Design, build, and test mini-projects. • Introduction to measuring, technical research, reading/making technical plans, CAD. • Learn hands-on technical problem solving. • Possible group projects: – Bridge design/build – Rocket design/launch – CO 2 dragster design/race

  14. Course Selection • Selection happens online through the Tyler website (not the app). • You can NOT take a class you have already taken. • Tyler elective selection is open from Dec 5 - 13 to choose your electives. You are filling two periods for the year. This can be done: – Two year-long classes – One year-long and two semester-long classes – Four semester-long classes
