Putting the CBCPI into Context Since 2010: In 2010, the Council expanded Special Research Initiatives by devoting 50% of CBCRP funding to program initiated research that increases breast cancer knowledge and points to solutions that will reduce suffering and move toward eliminating breast cancer. This new effort was titled the California Breast Cancer Prevention Initiatives (CBCPI). CBCPI aims to : 1. Identify and eliminate environmental causes of breast cancer. 2. Identify and eliminate disparities/inequities in the burden of breast cancer in California. 3. Population-level interventions (including policy research) on known or suspected breast cancer risk factors and protective measures. 4. Targeted interventions for high-risk individuals, including new methods for identifying or assessing risk.

CBCPI Initiatives Implementation To Date 15 initiatives approved by Council (11 in March 2015) • – 7 initiatives pre-funding/funded (Biomarkers, Chemical Testing, Firefighters Biomonitoring, Occupational Exposures, Paradigm, Primary Prevention Plan, Risk Assessment) – 2 initiatives reviewed, not funded (Chemical Policy + Ionizing Radiation) • Chemical Policy reconceptualized as evaluation of Proposition 65 (currently open) – 1 initiative under review • Animal Studies to Investigate Concurrent Effects of Environmental Chemicals and Stress Factors on Mammary Cancer – Programmatic Review for December 2016 Council meeting – 1 initiative open • Consumer Products (applications due February 2016)

  4. Next CBCPI Initiative To Roll Out Concept Proposal Topic Area Funding Mechanism Adverse Childhood Experiences Identify and eliminate RFP, 1 project, $600,000 and Breast Cancer Risk disparities/inequities in the burden of breast cancer in California
