EU Quota NAMI Lean Trimmings, December 2, 2019, Volume 5, Issue 48 EU Lawmakers Approve Increase of U.S. Beef Imports to Europe. European Union (EU) lawmakers approved an increase in U.S. beef imports to the EU last week, likely deescalating transatlantic tensions. The European Parliament voted overwhelmingly in favor of a plan to allow U.S. farmers a larger share of an existing 45,000-ton quota starting in 2020 ……Under the revised deal, U.S. farmers will gain an initial 18,500 tons of the quota, rising to 35,000 tons after seven years. The vote also came with a resolution urging President Trump to remove U.S. tariffs on EU steel and aluminum, and to withdraw his threats to raise tariffs on EU cars. The change in the quota must be approved by the EU Council and then published in the EU official journal before it enters into force.
