Canadian Experience with Aerial Patrols Utilizing Gimbal Systems to Scan Lines with IR & UV Equipment DERRICK BRYDGES
Derrick Brydges Linewise Aerial Solutions INC. derrick.brydges@linewiseaerial.com
Equipment • Gyro Stabilized Gimbal • HD Video • Digital camera • IR camera • UV camera • Remote GeoSystem
Objective • To utilize each camera systems to provide a quantitive analysis regarding any detected anomalies. • Discuss how weather, mechanical parameters can effect the anomaly detections • Operator skill sets used to interpret readings
Utilization of IR/UV and Enhanced Digital Imagery.
Digital camera Enhancement
Marker Ball installed on Fibre cable. Possible detached from inside clamp.
• In the above samples the weather was clear and dry. • During humid damp conditions one would have to factor in increased activity with IR and UV due to this condition.
Corona Ring @ NCI attachment.
• In the above sample there is a 12 inch Corona Ring installed. • Proper Size, proper position ? • Request Engineering Drawings for this assembly.

• In the above samples the system operator has to rely on his knowledge of the components, how the are effected by present conditions and what the cameras capture per their design. • In most cases a quantative decision can be made from all the data but if one is not absolutely sure a more detailed ground follow up is recommended.
• I always like to use the term “ where there is smoke usually there will be fire “ • Some of the follow up tools would be a HiDi insulator tester or a lineman climb the structure to obtain a more accurate angle of view on the sheds.
