  1. Call for Presentation Proposals The City of Richmond Diversity Symposium is a free, one-day conference focused on sharing best and emerging practices in creating diverse, equitable, and inclusive communities. The 2019 Symposium will be held on Friday, October 25, at Richmond City Hall (6911 No. 3 Road) from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. We are now accepting presentation proposals for the 2019 City of Richmond Diversity Symposium. We are seeking dynamic speakers and leaders who want to share their knowledge and experience in the field of diversity and inclusion. Why be a presenter? The City of Richmond Diversity Symposium gathers professionals and volunteers from municipal recreation and community services departments, not-for-profit groups, and social service organizations. Presenters have a unique opportunity to gain recognition and exchange ideas with over a hundred registrants who are involved in the field of diversity and inclusion. Workshops can explore a range of topics, such as:  Using an intersectional lens in understanding the diverse lived experiences of community members;  Promoting welcoming communities that are inclusive of different aspects of diversity;  Sharing practical approaches to facilitating intercultural communication and understanding;  Identifying promising practices that facilitate understanding and connection across diverse backgrounds;  Evaluating the impact and effectiveness of diversity and inclusion efforts. The Diversity Symposium encourages proposals that:  Provide active, hands-on learning experiences;  Explore best practices and innovations;  Build new connections with colleagues;  Help our delegates go home with practical skills, ideas, strategies, and perspectives to tackle challenges and opportunities at their field of work;  Share case studies and discussions on important issues in the field of diversity and inclusion. Formats Proposed sessions should be grounded in practice rather than theory, and focus on topics of interest to the municipal, non-profit, and social service sector. All sessions are 75 minutes long.  Workshop – Active learning with dedicated time for hands-on participation.  Presentation – One or more speakers present on a chosen topic. Allow for Q&A within this time frame.  Panel – Two or more speakers share the time equally, reflecting on topics that complement each other.
