Social Studies Changes Previous SS Courses for Graduation SS Courses for Current Students 4 Credits: 4 Credits: World History World History American History I Combination of American History Courses: American History II Option 1*: AHI and AH II or American History: Founding Principles, Civics Option 2:AH I or AH II and another social and Economics studies credit American History: Founding Principles, Civics and Economics *It is the recommendation of the Social Studies Department that students take American History II to learn about history after 1877.
4th Level Math Course Changes 4th Math Options: ● NC Math 4 (Honors & Academic) ○ Students majoring in non-STEM fields ● Discrete Math for Computer Science (Honors & Academic) ○ Students who plan to pursue careers as computer programmers, software engineers, data scientists, security analysts and financial analysts. ● Honors Pre-Calculus

Review of Course Selection Forms
Course Selection Form Instructions ● Place an X next to your eight primary choices. The number of A/B classes should be an even number and the number of semester classes should be an even number. ● Place an A next to your four alternate choices. Select four semester courses OR four A/B courses OR two semester and two A/B courses. ● Students should be prepared to receive any eight of the 12 choices
Online Registration You Must Register Online Through PowerSchool by March 16 *Make sure the course numbers you select in PowerSchool match the course numbers on the registration form*
Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) A VID is a selective, nationally acclaimed program that seeks to both challenge and support students on their path to attend a four-year college or university What does A VID provide? ● Tutorials and skills development in the A VID elective course ● Honors-level courses with their cohort ● Field trips (HBCU Fair and NCSU in September) ● Test prep ● College and scholarship advising
Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) How can I be considered for The Application A VID? ● Must be completed by the student ● Rising 10th or 11th graders who meet the ● Contains four short answer questions and a following criteria: one paragraph essay ○ Weighted GPA of 2.25 or ● 2 Teacher Recommendations higher ○ One must be from an English or ○ First generation college student Social Studies teacher ○ Desire and motivation to attend ○ Second recommendation can be from a four-year college or university any teacher. ○ Commit to enroll in rigorous courses The completed application with both teacher ○ Submit an application recommendations is due on March 16 with registration materials.

eLearning Opportunities ● Online, self-study course via NCVPS or Edmentum ● Not available for courses offered at Jordan ● Priority for online courses is given to seniors ● Limited opportunities during summer and school year ● Interested students will need to complete a statement and online course registration sheet in order to be considered.
Early Release Early Release ● No 4 th Period class ● Must exit the building and leave campus by the start of 4 th period ● Requirements ○ A submitted (and approved) application ○ Must be a senior ● Early Release privileges can be revoked if progress toward graduation status changes
Dual Credit Allowances for Career & College Promise ● An opportunity for students to attend college classes while enrolled at Jordan High School ● Earn college and in most cases high school credit ● Juniors and Seniors are eligible to participate ● Students new to Durham Tech Dual Enrollment must attend an information session (Next session March 5 at 5:30 p.m.) ● Schedule a meeting with Mr. DeSantis in Student Services for more information.
Credit by Demonstrated Mastery (CDM) ● Students may earn course credit without the requirement of seat time. ● Includes an application, Phase I assessment and Phase II artifact and/or performance assessment. ● Next application window opens March 2nd ● You are required to meet with your school counselor prior to completing the application.
What is a Hybrid Schedule? ● Students will have the increased opportunity to take semester and year-long classes. ● Why? ○ It supports acceleration, allowing more students access to advanced classes ○ It increases the number of options for students, such as completing internships, taking classes at local colleges and universities, and working during early release periods ○ Opportunities to earn credits mid-year and to graduate mid-year

Frequently Asked Questions ● Do students have the choice to take a class as year-long or semester? Most classes will be offered as just semester or year-long. ● Will all Advanced Placement classes be offered as year-long? The majority of our AP classes will be year-long. There will be a limited number of semester options.
Frequently Asked Questions ● When will exams begin? For semester classes, exams will be given at the end of the semester. Exams for year-long classes will be given at the end of the year. ● Can juniors have early release? Juniors who are seeking dual enrollment at Durham Tech or a local college or university will have the opportunity to have early release.
Frequently Asked Questions ● Can students change classes at the beginning of second semester? ○ Students will have a limited opportunity for schedule changes during the summer and during the first week of school. ○ There will also be an opportunity for limited schedule changes at the beginning of second semester.
Frequently Asked Questions ● Will rising seniors, the class of 2021, be able to graduate early? If so, how much notice will parents be given to make plans? There will be a place on the course selection sheet to indicate a desire to graduate early.
