CITIES AND CIRCULAR ECONOMY • In 2017, 54% of the population lived in urban areas and cities account for 85% of GDP • Cities = 75% of resources consumption , 50% of waste production , and 60 - 80% of GHG emissions . • But also, cities are key players in the transition with high density of resources, capital, data and talents on a limited geographic territory • Recovering concentrated flows of materials, sharing products & assets, designing for repair and disassembly become more feasible and are but a few of the many opportunities for circular economy in cities Cities that adopt the principles of circular economy become more attractive , liveable and resilient . 7

EXAMPLES OF TRANSVERSAL MEASURES LEGISLATION LEG 2 (& GOUV 4) - Circular Regulation Deal (CiRèDe) ➔ Platform to analyse and solve legal barriers to circular economy First program focus on 3 themes : • Temporary occupation: simplification of legistlation concerning urban planning • Waste legislation : interregional harmonisation and waste definition. • Improving access to information on urban planning for companies 1 st Report CiRèDe adopted on 2 May 2019 12

FINANCING CE COMPANIES AED 1 – Call for projects Be Circular ➔ Helping companies develop new projects on circular economy ➔ Allows more offers on circular economy on the Brussels market • already 3+1 editions (2016-2018) • 5.1 million euros • For 96 projects ( 276 Applications) • 230 jobs created 13

Resilience Coaching: Business support for SMEs to identify opportunities to integrate circularity in their activities • 8 editions with 10 to 15 teams each • > 50% projects realised • 26 companies supported in 2018 15

Climate citizen movements are raising awareness in Brussels streets, medias and political debate ➔ More and more people in Brussels are willing to go forward in a real transition Bruxelles could and should become one of the pionneers in this transition both for economic competitiveness, environmental benefit and societal change.
