Our Operation v 1200 Square miles of operating region across Gloucestershire & West Oxfordshire v We complete over a million collections across waste, recycling and food every two weeks = 5000+ tonnes v Accuracy rate is an average 99.94%
Key risks v Health & safety, environmental and fleet compliance v Reputational risk for Ubico and our Council shareholders – waste, recycling and environment services is a core service delivered to every single household v Potential for considerable public reaction when service is interrupted. Residents expect the service to be reliable right first time.
Brexit impacts v Supplies and services v Bulking & haulage v Employment
Supplies and services v Many supplies including vehicle parts, plant and machinery equipment imported from EU v Many deliveries on a ‘just in time’ basis with little stockpiling by 3 rd party manufacturers v Potential for vehicles and equipment could be out of use for longer parts or supplies are scarce or delayed.
Bulking and haulage – Example transfer station
Bulking and haulage v Recycling material is delivered to transfer stations where it is bulked and sent on to processors. Some material is then exported from the processing facilities back to the market via EU ports v Ubico’s ability stockpile recycling material is low due to space and environmental risks and permits v Essential that continuity of exports is maintained to prevent backlog of material
Employment v National driver shortage of around 70,000 drivers nationally v Currently low unemployment and fewer applicants for operational posts v Many drivers from EU within Ubico, especially in West Oxfordshire operation
Potential risks? v Some temporary service disruption if supply chain is severely impacted v Environmental compliance if material exports are impacted v Higher costs if prices rise through economic instability v Impacts on our employees
Actions v Working with suppliers for reassurances on service continuity due to Ubico’s interdependencies on supply chain v Looking to build up stock where we can v Reassurances being sought to continue the export of material in event of a no-deal v Series of actions on training more drivers and investing in recruitment
