Build something great™ BORAL QUARRIES HALL > General operations update
General operations update ˃ Production to date - 2017 ˃ 225 000 tonnes against consent limit of 500 000 tonnes ˃ Site activities ˃ 6 blasts this year, next blast scheduled for Monday 4 December ˃ Major shut down during Christmas from 11 December to 29 January ˃ Mobile crusher to be brought in for month of January ˃ Major overhaul to our primary jaw crusher ˃ Screen 3 replacement during Easter 2018 ˃ Site safety record ˃ Currently highest Country NSW quarry site for reporting of hazards – great safety outcome
General operations update ˃ Barton Hwy-Kaveneys Rd intersection continues to perform well two years into use. ˃ Nil issues reported by our Boral drivers ˃ Community feedback – is it still working well for you? ˃ A reminder that we encourage the reporting of any inappropriate driver behaviour associated with the quarry. ˃ Important to make a timely report so that we can take immediate action ˃ Helpful details include time/place of incident , colour of vehicle involved, direction of travel, registration , fleet number ˃ For Boral Fleet vehicles , we can review electronic monitoring to verify any reports ˃ Action can and has been taken in instances of wrongdoing – Driver Code of Conduct forms part of Boral employment, standards written into customer supply agreements.
General operations update ˃ In considering the quarry’s future, we’ve identified that a modification to our planning consent may be required during 2018. ˃ The potential modification relates to our overburden emplacements at the site. ˃ Overburden refers to the topsoil, sub-soil, vegetation and other material separating the surface from the hard rock resource ˃ A lot of overburden is being generated by the operations at present ˃ Our consent identifies where we can emplace the overburden, so as these areas fill, we need to think about where else it can be put. ˃ Currently assessing options for new emplacements when required. ˃ If new emplacement areas are needed, we’ll need to apply to Yass Valley Council to modify the consent. ˃ Expected to require the compilation of a Statement of Environmental Effects (SEE) ˃ Would include the usual period for public comment ˃ We’ll update you once anything gets moving on this process. ˃ Newsletters, extra community meeting if required
Build something great™ BORAL QUARRIES HALL > Environmental overview
Environmental overview ˃ Drafting new Water Management Plan for site ˃ New round of noise monitoring at boundaries ˃ Clean out of sediment dams carried out during April ˃ New dust suppression system fitted to plant – Feb/Mar 2018
Build something great™ BORAL QUARRIES HALL > Community participation and general business
Helping our community – Terroux Observatory ˃ During May, we were contacted by Michael from the Terroux Observatory, a small facility approximately 3km south-west of the quarry in Wallaroo. ˃ Facility opened in September 2014 ˃ Involved in scientific research and ‘deep space’ astrophotography programs ˃ Instrumental in finding a new galaxy and ‘ejector shells’ around a star since opening ˃ Issue arose after quarry replaced some lights which hadn’t been serviced for some time. ˃ Light impacted observatory’s ability to view space due to casting of shadows ˃ Following contact, we purchased and installed seven day light timers which switch on and off at set points, allowing Observatory to plan their viewing. ˃ Completed within two weeks of initial contact ˃ Quarry is now the talk of the astrological community! ˃ Example demonstrates we are more than happy to try and accommodate our neighbours when our operations unduly influence them.
General business and contacts ˃ Items of general business ˃ Next Community Meeting ˃ Next meeting will be arranged for Nov 2018 unless community requests earlier session. ˃ Boral Hall Quarry contacts: ˃ Nick White Quarry Manager 0401 894 191 / nicholas.white@boral.com.au ˃ Scott Dowling Quarry Supervisor 0401 895 677 / scott.dowling@boral.com.au ˃ Paul Jackson Stakeholder Relations Manager 4677 2946 (Mon/Tue/Fri) / 0401 894 097 (Wed/Thu) / paul.jackson2@boral.com.au ˃ www.boral.com.au/hallquarry ˃ feedback@boral.com.au
