I remember our young people singing a Hillsongs Song entitled “One Way Jesus” the chorus goes One way Jesus, You’re the only one that I could live for! It then goes on to declare I lay my life down at your feet I turn to you and you are always there Your grace abounds so deeply in me You will never ever change, yesterday today the same We live by faith and not by sight In the reading that we heard we are told that our attitude should be the same as Christ Jesus: Made himself nothing Took the nature of a servant Humbled himself Obedient Do we take on these attitudes? In Matthew Chapter 5 we hear that Jesus taught the crowd with a series of statements starting with Blessed – these have become known as the Be- attitudes. > Not so much about what we do > It is about who we are > Did the Philippian Church have an Attitude problem ? ( You should look not to your own interests but to the interests of others ) > Maybe they had an Altitude problem ? – Thinking more highly of themselves! (I don’t need God or anyone else!) > Maybe they had an Aptitude Problem ? – Thinking they can get along without God? (Got all I need thanks!) Slide Three >The Be-attitudes that Jesus taught lead to actions: our attitudes lead to our actions!! > Check out the Jesus Way: What would/might Jesus do? > Notice Jesus teaches these things not in a church but up a mountain in a public and prominent place.
