  1. Bacticide – An Ecofriendly Biolarvicide Saurabh Singhal Managing Director 9 th Annual Joint Conference of ISMOCD & IAE 02 nd November 2012 New Delhi

  2.  BIL was incorporated in January 1993 with a focused mandate for eco friendly environmentally safe target specific and highly efficacious biological products. BIL is ISO 9001:2008 ISO 14001:2004 certified company with an IMO certification. Our in house R&D Department has been approved and given recognition by DSIR.  BIL is a leading company and a pioneer in introducing Biopesticides and Biofertilisers for organic farming in agriculture and Biolarvicides for mosquito larvae control and mosquito bednets in public health.  BIL has a Biological Input Umbrella consisting of 32 biologicals.

  3. Product Profile Public Health Agriculture  Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis  Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki WP  Bacillus subtilis  Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis  Trichoderma DT  Pseudomonas  Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis  Metarrhizium AS  Verticillium  Insecticide Treated Bednets  NPVs  Bednets  Azadirachtin WP: Wettable Powder  Traps Lures DT: Dispersible Tablet  Biofertilisers AS: Aqueous Suspension All our products are registered with the Central Insecticide Board and have been accorded a Green Label signifying Least Toxicity to mammals, flora & fauna. 8. Bacillus thuringiensis var. Israelensis • Isolated first time in 1976 in Israel • Spore-crystal of Bti contain toxic proteins (protoxins )

  9. Bacticide  Bacticide WP ( Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis Serotype H-14, Strain: 164) is a target specific Biological larvicide used for the control of larval stages of various species of mosquitoes on water surface of any habitat.  CIB-RC (Central Insecticide Board Registration Committee Plant Protection & Quarintine under Ministry of Agricuture) Granted Permanent/Regular registration u/s 9(3) in year 2000. ( http://www.cibrc.nic.in )  Approved field application dosage against various mosquitoes species in different habitats is 2 kg – 5 Kg per hectare on a weekly or fortnightly in clean and polluted waters.

  10.  Potency 5380 IU/mg. Min. on Aedes aegypti 5370 IU/mg. Min. on Anopheles culicifacies 5450 IU/mg. Min. on Anopheles Stephensi 5440 IU/mg. Min. on Culex quinqefasciatus  Composition Bacillus thuringiensis var israelensis Spores 5-8 % w/w Delta Endotoxin (Active Ingredient) 5-8 % w/w Adjuvants 84-90 % w/w

  11.  Bacticide can control vectors like Aedes, Anopheles, Culex, Simuliidae (Black Fly), Nuisance Mosquito and the diseases caused by them including , Japanese Encephalitis, Malaria, Filaria , Dengue, Chikunguniya and Onchocerciasis (river blindness).  Being target specific Bacticide does not harm Gambusia and Guppy fishes and other friendly predators and parasites.  Bacticide is in the form of wettable powder and can be stored up to 45°C with a shelf life of two years.  Bacticide conforms to the new CIB guidelines also.

  12. Target Specific Mode Of Action

  13. Inclusion of Larvicides in Public Health Programs Under NVBDCP  Manufacturer approaches NVBDCP for incorporation of their product in the program.  The information received of the product is submitted to NVBDCP Expert Group on Vector Control constituted under DGHS.  The Expert Group examine various issues like usefulness of the larvicide in the program , dosage and frequency of application, registration with CIB, human safety and effect on non target organisms.  If Expert Group is satisfied the product is then recommended for multi centric field trials using standard protocol “ Protocols for Uniform Evaluation of Insecticides for use in Vector Control”

  14.  The trials are done in three phases and for biolarvicides Phase I – 2 Months ; Phase II – 3 Months ; Phase III – 6 Months  Detailed data on field trials is submitted and examined by Expert Group for its recommendation to Technical Advisory Committee (TAC).  The findings of the trials are deliberated in the TAC under DGHS, MOH&FW for its approval.  Such TAC decisions are taken up by NVBDCP after the approval of MOH&FW for application.  Before procurement of products the specifications are approved by Technical Committee headed by Additional Director General, Directorate General of Health Services.
