The Forks in The Road Back ● Governor’s directive at the end of June 2020: “will open in-person instruction and operations in some capacity.” ● Governor’s directive in mid-July 2020: Parental choice allowing students to go fully-remote. ● August 12 , Governor’s directive announced districts are permitted to open, unless they need additional time to implement safety and health protocols-procedures-etc.

  8. Safety-Health: Staffing ● Requests for leaves/telework ○ Cannot adhere to 6 feet social distancing ○ Lack of supervision for the safety of students ○ Lack of staff to assign to watch students that are symptomatic or learn of a positive test

Safety-Health: Screening ● Delay in Thermoscan Machines ● Available space for 2 areas: ○ Isolating staff/students who learn of a positive test while in building ○ Isolating symptomatic staff/students while in building ○ Space must allow multiple people at 6’ apart ○ Staff assigned to watch students

Leaves Available to Staff Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL) and Extended Family Medical Leave (EFLML) ● If telework is not available, staff will be able to take Intermittent leave up to 12 weeks. ● He/she may use his/her accrued sick/personal/vacation days for up to two weeks of paid leave under the Families First Coronavirus Act (FFCRA) ● And if needed and if he/she qualify, up to an additional ten weeks under the Extended Family & Medical Leave Act. ● EPSL will be for those staff who are unable to work or telework because they are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 and seeking medical diagnosis.

  13. Qualification for Paid Leave If an employee is not able or provided telework the below are qualifications for paid leave. (1) The employee is subject to a Federal, State, or local quarantine or isolation order related to COVID–19. (2) The employee has been advised by a health care provider to self-quarantine due to concerns related to COVID– 19. (3) The employee is experiencing symptoms of COVID–19 and seeking a medical diagnosis. (4) The employee is caring for an individual who is subject to an order as described in subparagraph (1) or has been advised as described in paragraph (2). (5) The employee is caring for a son or daughter of such employee if the school or place of care of the son or daughter has been closed, or the child care provider of such son or daughter is unavailable, due to COVID–19 precautions. (6) The employee is experiencing any other substantially similar condition specified by the Secretary of Health and Human Resources.

  14. Leave Payments ● Full-time employees are entitled to 80 hours of Emergency Paid Sick Leave (“EPSL”) under the EPSLA. ● Part-time employees are entitled to a pro-rata amount of EPSL based on the normally scheduled work hours. ● The rate of pay for this use of EPSL is 2/3 the employees regular pay, capped at $200 per day.

  18. Facilities Classrooms: ● Student desks have been moved to 6 foot distance; all non-essential furniture has been moved out of classroom space. When we receive the final student count per room we will move any unassigned desks out to storage. ● Desktop shields have arrived today; these will be used in classrooms that utilize tables; pre-school, kindergarten, and areas with tables. Also the shields will be used on desks based on students’ individualized need, as well as student desks in self contained MD classrooms. ● Hand sanitizer stations have been installed in every classroom and outside every restroom. ● Disinfectant wipes have been distributed to all classrooms and offices. These wipes can be used to disinfected any items that might be shared. ● Signage reading “STOP THE SPREAD OF CORONAVIRUS-PLEASE WASH HANDS FOR 20 SECONDS” have been installed in all restrooms.
