  12.  Lois Ridgway, Michele Moroz and Nadine Schueller met with Dr. Judy Currie and Dr. Cemaine Tsang at the SVMA office on Wednesday October 7 th . The agenda included the relationship as defined by the Veterinarians Act 1987, shaping the SVMA and SAVT bylaws for complimentary outcomes, day to day logistics for the registration process and the financial relationship between the SAVT and SVMA. It also included about acceptable credentials and the VTNE with regards to foreign trained Vet Techs.

  13.  We understand that the SVMA has no interest in overtaking our registration process nor charging us additional fees. Our list will continue to be their list for registration.  However, the SVMA will be invoicing SAVT for discipline cases against our members. This will be a joint effort and they do not wish to bankrupt us, they will invoice in payments if necessary, but they suggest the need to establish a legal fund.  As we have a current disciplinary case that is working its way through the system, this is a current reality.

  14.  The SVMA has a $300,000 Legal fund that they supplement with a $100 surcharge/member when depleted  SAVT’s recommended Legal/disciplinary fund was recommended to be $100,000.  The system of a surcharge was adopted and the first $50 surcharge will be implemented into the budget for the 2015/2016 year.  This will start our legal fund at approx. $21,000 and will expect to take 5 years to complete pending usage.  The capital reserve will be used in the meantime if the current case proves costly.
