  4. REPORT FROM THE BOARD - GOVERNANCE Patrick Thompson, PSO Coordinator with Sport Nova 2016 BOARD: Scotia, is also on the Board as a non-voting member. President - Peter Webster Meetings held the second Secretary - Tracy Brown Tuesday evening of each month Treasurer - Nicole Sanscartier Ad hoc meetings as required Director - Katie Edwards to support specific initiatives and events Director - Nick Head-Petersen Director - Lynda Shoveller

  5. REPORT FROM THE BOARD - GOVERNANCE • In 2016 Row NS moved to a Board with fewer Directors, but with a larger group of individuals involved overall via formalized sub-committees. This structure aids with succession planning, variable options for Board service based on commitment levels, and talent optimization. • Current Sub-committees: A. Coach Development – focus on coach mentorship, training, certification B. Finance/Treasury – set and manage annual budget, transactions, investments C. Fundraising – increase revenue, access new sources of funding D. Governance – strategic plan, future direction, by-law compliance E. High Performance – focus on athlete performance, Provincial Team F. Membership – liaise with clubs and other key stakeholders G. PR and Communications – web, social media, promotion, recruitment H. Safety and Events – regattas and other events, on water safety, training • Board to focus on long-term objectives and governance • Board members do not represent specific clubs. They represent the interests of all stakeholders including clubs, athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and other supporters. • Sub-committees are looking for new members. Please advise if you are interested in getting involved!

  6. REPORT FROM THE BOARD - GOVERNANCE PAC and RCA Annual Summary 1. Terry Dillion new CEO 2. National Team Coaches named 3. New Technical Director position has not been filled yet but interviews completed 4. Annual Dues Increase in 2017: Sport Fees increasing to $15 5. New Umpire education program to starting in 2017 6. Umpire committee recommending minimum fees for clinics: Example Level 1 Clinic $100 Honorarium and Participation fee of $25 7. RCA AGM Approved the recommendations of the Membership Review Committee and will adopt the new fee structure in 2018. Base fee $20 and competitive per seat fee of $3.25 8. No National Master’s Championships in 2017. PAC and RCA to review how best to address a national event for Masters.

REPORT FROM THE BOARD - PR AND COMMUNICATIONS • Formation of a PR / Communications sub-committee • Updating platforms to be more consistent, professional, and appealing • Website launch - February 15, 2017! • Facebook - 304 page likes (up from 188 as of Feb 2016) • Twitter - 577 followers (up from 478 as of Feb 2016) • Instagram - 109 followers since launch in January 2016 • E-newsletter “The Catch” sent to 912 people quarterly

Atlantic University Championships Really Chili THANK YOU! Regional: Thank you to all the Umpires Head of the Four Bridges (NB) who faithfully volunteer at so Red Island Regatta (PEI) many, if not all, of the regattas. REPORT FROM THE BOARD - HIGH PERFORMANCE • Four training groups working out of the Provincial Training Centre in Dartmouth, under the leadership of the Provincial Team Coach, in addition to training sessions at their home clubs: Group Sessions/ Week # of Athletes Performance 6-8 3 + 1 guest (fall) Training 4 10 Development 2 5 Pre-Development 1 4 Offering over 30 hours of active coaching services weekly • 10 Training and Assessment Camps delivered, including a visit from RCA’s Al Morrow • Development and distribution of training plans for athletes club coaches • Management and development of training centre • Row NS Coaches Mini Summit delivered in May • ~75 High School, cold call, and Club TID assessments delivered this year • Coach mentorship programs beginning with RCA Coach Mentor, Al Morrow, and Tracy Brown enrolled in the Women in Coaching Canada Games Apprenticeship Program.

REPORT FROM THE BOARD - HIGH PERFORMANCE ADDITIONAL NOTES • Renewed partnership with Canadian Sports Centre Atlantic • Full participation in RBC Training Ground national multi sport talent search • Development of a database for performance monitoring • 75 new TID tests administered in 2016 – 8 referrals to clubs resulting in new members Event Results Participation increase over 2015 Royal Canadian 2 athletes in A Finals (2 nd and 5 th place) Henley 8 crews advanced to semis) 8 athletes represented NS; all returning athletes improved on 2015 National Rowing Highlights included 3 rd in the JrM2-, 5 th in the LW1x, 6 th in the Championships JrW1x, 7 th in U23M1x, 8 th in U23LW1x, 9 th in LW1x, 11 th in JrW1x. World Rowing 2 NS athletes represented Canada at the; Cody Bailey – 5 th in the Championships U23M2x and Jenna Pelham – 4 th in the LW4x. FISU (World University Zak Lewis represented Canada for the second consecutive year Championships)
