  1. AGENDA REPORT Meeting Date: September 18, 2018 Agenda Item # ______ City Manager Approval: TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council FROM: Robin Kampmann, Public Works Director SUBJECT: Bureau of Reclamation Fire-Fuel Reduction Project at Dog Island Park RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION: City Council receives the informational presentation on the Fire-fuel Reduction Activities at Dog Island Park presented by the U.S. Department of Interior Bureau of Reclamation. SUMMARY: The U.S. Department of Interior Bureau of Reclamation has planned fire-fuel reduction activities at various locations on Reclamation owned lands in the City of Red Bluff. The lands designated for fuel treatment activities are lands that pose a threat of sustaining and spreading a wildland fire or are within defensible space zones. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: None DISCUSSION: There are five designated phases based on the priority of vegetation density, fuel load, proximity of structures and residences, potential for ignition and slope and topography. These phases consist of portions of Dog Island Park, areas adjacent to the Sacramento River south of Dog Island Park, Reeds Creek, Sand Slough and the Dibble Creek Area. Project activities will aim to create a vegetative arrangement which will discourage wildfire spread/growth, reduce wildfire intensity and create and open landscape to enhance public safety within the project areas. All work will be accomplished by hand crews using mechanical equipment, including but not limited to chippers, string trimmers, chainsaws and loppers and biological treatments through small animal grazing such as goats and sheep.
