  2. 2 What is AGE Platform Europe?  AGE Platform Europe was created in January 2001 in order to improve and strengthen the cooperation between older people’s organisations and their representativeness at European level.  European network of organisation of, or working for older people, across the European Union  An non-for-profit association financed partly by contribution from its membership (20%) and grants of the European Commission - DG Justice (80%)

  4. 4 Role and Objectives The European voice of older people at EU level ‘ Nothing About Us Without Us !’ ► Voice and represent the interests of older and retired people towards the European institutions (awareness-raising) ► Improve the dialogue and cooperation between its members and the European Institutions ► Support networking between older people’s groups in Europe ► Inform its members on EU ageing related initiatives + EU decision-makers on members ’ situation and concerns ► Influence policy makers at EU level ( + national level through its members) ► Cooperate with other European NGOs

  6. 6 Vision  Ageing of the population = a challenge + an opportunity !!  Towards a society for all ages : equal opportunities for all regardless of age + greater solidarity and cooperation between generations  Recognition and promotion of older people’s contribution to our society  Self-advocacy : Older people should be empowered to speak on their own behalf  Holistic vision of ageing

  7. 7 A wide range of policy areas  Non discrimination and older people’s human rights (+ gender equality)  Active ageing : employment of workers > 50, citizenship, volunteering, lifelong learning, work-life balance  Social inclusion and fight against poverty  Social protection : pension reform, minimum old-age income, access to quality public services  Health and long-term care : accessibility and quality, patient information, independent living, elder abuse, occupational health, e- health…  Accessibility : to new technologies, transport/mobility, built environments, goods and services  Consumers’rights - Senior tourism - ‘ Silver economy ’ ( broad sense)

  9. 9 Research Projects  AGE is involved in a number of European projects in relation to ageing . Main topics: health, mobility, new technology  Project objectives: independent living in old age: accessible environments, healthy ageing + sustainable quality healthcare  Objective of AGE involvement: fostering older people’s involvement ( user involvement ) in research, design and development of those projects to ensure they will meet older people’s actual needs.

Age-friendly environments WHO definition:  ‘Active ageing’ = the process of optimizing opportunities for health, participation and security in order to enhance quality of life as people age  Physical and social environments are key determinants of whether people can remain healthy, independent and autonomous long into their old age. Adaptation of our daily environments to the needs of the ageing population in terms of (physical and mental) health, autonomy, social inclusion and participation (according to one’s capacities) and quality of life

EU initiatives EU process/projets:  European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations 2012  The European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP AHA) - Action Group D4 (on age- friendly environments – coordinated by AGE)  Programme de financement HORIZON 2020 - « Silver Economy »  Projet AFE-INNOVNET (2013-2015) coordinated by AGE (16member states, 13 cities, 6 regions, 5 European network) =) EU Covenant for Demographic Change

The European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing The EIP AHA pursues a threefold objective for Europe:  enabling EU citizens to lead healthy, active and independent lives while ageing;  improving the sustainability and efficiency of social and health care systems;  boosting and improving the competitiveness of the markets for innovative products and services, creating new opportunities for businesses.  By bringing together key stakeholders (end users, public authorities, industry)

EIP AHA Action groups and reference sites • Integrated Care (B3) • Adherence (A1) • Independent Living (C2) • Falls (A2) • Age-Friendly • Frailty (A3) Environments (D4) • Reference Sites provide transferable examples of a comprehensive, innovation-based approach to active and healthy ageing  coalitions of regions, cities, integrated hospitals or care organisations are able to show their impact and particular innovative practices

D4 action group on age-friendly environments  Coordinated by AGE  Main objective: bring together multi-sectorial partners committed to implement strategies for the creation of age-friendly environments which support active and healthy ageing  exchange of experience and practices + increase older people’s involvement  launch of a European covenant on demographic change

European Convention on Demographic Change  Gathers European public authorities at local, regional and national level, and other stakeholders  Launched in December 2015  Aim: provide an EU framework to allow cities and regions across the EU to adopt concrete changes fostering active and healthy ageing, namely in: - Increasing healthy life expectancy - Promoting opportunities for independent living in old age Website: http://afeinnovnet.eu - Supporting an society for all ages  Creates synergies with existing EU and UN initiatives  Currently more than 145 members  Secretariat run by AGE

LATEST NEWS EU Pillar on Social Rights Council agreement on EC proposal for a EU pillar of social rights on 23/10/17 Proclamation on 17/11/2017 in Sweden EU PSR includes 20 rights and principles e.a.: • The right to timely access to affordable, preventive and curative health care of good quality. • The right to to affordable long-term care services of good quality, in particular home- care and community-based services.
