The Stone Age by Berry
The ‘Stone Age’ is divided into three periods of time
The Palaeolithic Age The Palaeolithic Age refers to a time period in history, which began approximately 2.5 million years ago. During the Palaeolithic Age man evolved from his former ape-like existence to become a human. During this time man began to use fire for cooking and create art, as can be seen in cave paintings dating back to this time. People were nomadic and found what food they could.
The Mesolithic Age The Mesolithic period began about 15,000 years ago. During this time people started to use more sophisticated stone tools. They also started to build basic huts to live in and tended to live in small groups.
The Neolithic Age The Neolithic age commenced around 11,000 years ago. During this time people started to settle in permanent villages and also began farming food. Humans also started crafts, such as pottery and weaving.
Many examples of cave paintings have been discovered, but none have been found in Britain!
