Advice from previous HSC Cohorts Subject Choice • Know your strengths and work with them • Choose subjects which you like and have an interest in • Do not choose subjects based on scaling • Don’t choose extension subjects as a buffer • Be careful of choosing more than one subject which has a major work component North Sydney Girls High School - Towards Higher Things
Parents: What can you do? 1. PRAISE the study habits of your daughter (ask her what you can do to help) 2. Recognise effort NOT results 3. SUPPORT and ENCOURAGE your daughter to: • Eat healthy food and get enough sleep • Continue social and physical activities • Have a study plan which incorporates breaks (5- 10mins) • Have a quiet designated study space • Have realistic thoughts and keep her options open • Focus on her learning and NOT her marks • Seek support from her teachers • Remain calm and realistic – don’t panic! Remember… A small amount of anxiety can be good but don’t let it tip over into unhealthy patterns of excessive worry, insomnia, poor concentration, persistent procrastination and perfectionism.
