  3. ADDHIT: Progress and Key Achievements to date • Getting accepted as a formal HIT! • Inaugural meeting has taken place and priorities for action agreed • Engagement and enthusiasm from all key stakeholders engaged in the wider team • Continued interest and ideas from additional stakeholders

  4. ADDHIT: Future Plans • Submit applications for CLAHRC to support research / evaluation around alcohol detoxification models • New emerging areas e.g. looking at the effect of glass shape on alcohol intake • Linking in with other studies e.g. work to reduce drug use with Street Sex Workers • Build on existing networks and research being undertaken in the field

ADDHIT: Current Studies • NIHR HS&DR: “Evaluating the impact of opiate substitution treatment on drug related deaths in the population” • NIHR: “How to improve HCV case finding in primary care and specialist drug clinics” • NIHR PH: “Investigate the cost-effectiveness of interventions in needle exchange” • NIHR School of Public Health Research: “Trial of alcohol screening and brief intervention in custody suites” • NIHR SPHR: “Scope Health Impact Assessment of Licensing Policy”

  6. HIT Challenges • Too many priorities and areas we wish to explore – what not to do! • Engaging services users in the most appropriate way • New kids on the block – other HITs have already been established for a year or more • How best to engage with other HITs to ensure common themes are explored and best practice shared
