SERVICE LEARNING Students will provide a service to a Kingston organization that involves a vulnerable community Students must commit to work with the organization for at least two semesters SLP must be at a UGME-approved organization SERVICE-LEARNING REQUIREMENTS Submit a project information form Reflection paper (500-word written reflection) submitted to global.health@queensu.ca at the conclusion of the service-learning project 04
Placements need to be in a low-resource setting in Canada or abroad OBSERVERSHIP Pre-clerkship students: complete 4-week GH observership Clerkship students: complete 3-week GH observership Students are responsible for organizing the logistics of their clinical placement Check with the Department of Undergraduate Medicine for approval process OBSERVERSHIP REQUIREMENTS Complete the Culture, Safety & Ethics Course Attend Post-Travel Debrief 05

THE DEBRIEF IS MANDATORY FOR ALL AEP STUDENTS POST-TRAVEL The purpose of this session is to debrief on: achievement of learning DEBRIEF objectives, positive and negative experiences and lessons learned DEBRIEF REQUIREMENTS attend the debrief session complete a post-reflection survey 07
Educational sessions can be lectures, panels, journal clubs, documentary EDUCATIONAL screenings on pertinent global health issues SESSIONS Eligible sessions will be posted on the global health event listing page. If you come across an event that you think will qualify email global.health@queensu.ca and wait for an approval/decline response Please email global.health@queensu.ca once you've attended an event -- sometimes a volunteer will take attendance at the event and forward to us. You are also required to keep track of your own attendance SESSION REQUIREMENTS attend 6 educational sessions 08

THE MENTORSHIP COMPONENT IS OPTIONAL AND INTENDED TO BE A RESOURCE FOR STUDENTS. MENTORSHIP We recommend that you have a Faculty Mentor, with whom to discuss GH issues. If you do not have a relationship with a mentor, please contact global.health@queensu.ca or the student lead for ideas of possible mentors. Please note: when you complete your placement, you will be required to have a mentor who agrees to debrief with you remotely each week during the placement. You may want to mention this to your potential mentor when establishing your mentorship relationship. MENTORSHIP REQUIREMENTS reminder: this is optional 10

You have until the end of your undergraduate medical education at Queen's to complete the requirements. It is, however, strongly recommended that you complete the program prior to clerkship. In order for it to appear on your MSPR, the AEP must be completed before you begin fourth year. 11
