A STUDENT RAN BUSINESS Classroom Partnership The Journalism department currently printed posters, cards, invitations, etc. for businesses and the school. They wanted to expand and market that program and turn it into an actual business.

Classroom Partnership  The Journalism department currently printed posters, cards, invitations, etc. for businesses and the school.  They wanted to expand and market that program and turn it into an actual business.  They asked the business department to partner with them.  This was the start of the discussion of the student ran business.

  3. 2015 – 2016 School Year  The idea was developed to create a student ran business.  Students would learn the process of running a business.  Each student would have a role/job within the business they were responsible for.  What type of business the students were going to run changed over time.  Coffee Shop  Video Productions  Screen Printing  Mr. Curtis and Mrs. Flinn attended several workshops on student ran businesses and the process that we should follow.

  4. Paw Print was developed  After a lot of discussion and matching curriculum within the departments it was decided that a screen printing shop would be best.  It also had the benefits of helping the community  Lincoln does not have one  Nearest shop is 40 miles away

  5. Funding  At this point we had to figure out exactly how we were going to fund the program.  Buy equipment  Attend training  Build an inventory  We had about 8 months at this point to figure this out to be up and running by the next school year.

  6. LET THE GRANT WRITING BEGIN  From this point we began writing grants. Anything that we could find that was relevant we wrote a grant for.  We found and wrote 7 grants of relevance to our project.  We were awarded 6 grants

  7. Award Process  The entire program was funded  Post Rock Community Foundation by grants.  Dane Hansen  Association of Retired Teachers of Kansas  Carl D. Perkins Grant  This had to be used for training  Lincoln County WEB Development Fund  VOYA Financial  NexTech Wireless Donation

  8. Next Step: Summer 2016  Design the class  Set up student roles  Find a classroom we could set up shop.  Order equipment  What did we need?  Go to training  Attended training in St. Louis at Lawson Screen Printing  Paid for by the Carl D. Perkins Grant.

  9. The Paw Print Business The students run the  Manager  Sales entire business. From  Press Operator talking to the customer  School Outreach Director to the final printing and  Graphic Designer invoicing. Each student  Vinyl Operator had to apply for a job  Social Media Director within the business.  Purchasing Many jobs are assisted  Invoice/Accounts Payable by other students.

  10. Operations  The Paw Print business has grown a lot in just one year.  A lot of lessons have been learned by the students.  Quality Control  Profit Margin  Waste Management  Customer Relations

  11. Profit  For each product made $1 is given back to the school or community.  The decision is made by the students who operate Paw Print. A couple  They will decide at the end of the shirts that year how their earnings will be were spent. created by our students.

  12. Services Provided by Paw Print  Apparel Screen Printing  Up to 4 colors/side  Vinyl Design  Banners  Signs  Vinyl Application Order form for Lincoln Grade School shirts created by our students

  13. A Few Team Projects  Helped Student Council with shirts for a Red Out (American Heart Association) and Pink Out (Breast Cancer Awareness)  Team up with the Lincoln Recreation Department to provide shirts for youth athletics.  Provided vinyl signage for the schools.

Vinyl Sign Advertising Our Business Future Goals  Paw Print would like to expand to provide an embroidery machine.  Partnership with a local business to provide a retail shop to sell our apparel downtown.  Purchase a vinyl printer  Create accounts to become a retailer of name brand products.
