The Tool Empatico is a free tool for teachers to connect their classroom with others around the world using a combination of technology and classroom activities. The tool was developed by a team of 100+ global experts in the fields of education, technology, and child psychology. Empatico was created by teachers for teachers. Classrooms are matched through an algorithm using criteria of proximity, timezone, activity interest, and students’ ages. The Empatico site is available in English, Spanish and French. empatico.org

Theory of Change Empatico activities help students learn and practice crucial life skills such as perspective taking, critical thinking, cooperation, and respectful communication. Research suggests that social and emotional skills are just as important as traditional academic skills (e.g. science or math) for success in the workplace. Students have the opportunity to learn about different perspectives and practice interpersonal skills which are crucial for building cross-cultural relationships later in life.
