  3. S PANISH 1 AND F RENCH 1  Students will be speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Spanish or French.  Students will become acquainted with the culture and daily lifestyles of people in Spanish and French-speaking countries.  German 1 is offered at WWS when you become a freshman.

  4. S PANISH 1 AND F RENCH 1 = H IGH S CHOOL L EVEL C OURSE  Spanish / French 1 at Edison Middle School is the same as Spanish / French 1 at WWSHS.  Edison students take the same final exam as WWSHS students in January and June.

S EQUENCE :  If you take Spanish 1 or French 1 at Edison, this puts you into a sequence that continues into high school:  8 th grade = Spanish / French 1  Freshman = Spanish / French 2  Sophomore = Spanish / French 3 (Advanced Level Course)  Junior = Spanish / French 4 (A)  Senior = Spanish / French 5 (AP)

Guest Speakers Edison Students Learn from District’s Own Entrepreneur: Passion + Perseverance = Success On November 2 nd , 8th graders in Edison’s Entrepreneurship class had a chance to hear first -hand what it takes to become an entrepreneur. David Dalmaso, a sophomore at Wheaton Warrenville South High School, spoke to the class about his experience in setting up his own company. David is the CEO and co-founder of Mijock , a custom apparel company that specializes in athletic supports. David and his brothers started the company four years ago after his mother challenged them to utilize their free time doing something productive. His apparel can be found on-line and he is working on venturing into the retail market. The Entrepreneurship class is one of the new 21 st Century electives offered to 8 th graders in the District. Students have been learning what it takes to start their own business: from the principles to start and operate a business, to marketing, financial considerations and customer service. Other guest speakers have included a project manager for an environmental systems design company, a local attorney and former Edison student, and a digital marketing director for an advertising company. Students enjoyed listening to a young person close to their age find success. Class feedback included quotes like, “It was interesting to see someone our age come up with a business idea and be so successful.” David’s message of “Passion + Perseverance = Success” was inspirational for all .
