  7. Graduation Requirements: Graduation Program All 9 th graders in Spring ISD will enroll into the Foundation High School Program Endorsements + Distinguished Level of Achievement This graduation program requires 26 credits.

Foundation High School Program Endorsement + Distinguished Level of Achievement (Students who entered 9 th grade 2014-2015 and beyond) 26 Credits English – 4 credits Languages Other Than English (LOTE)– 2 credits – same language Math – 4 credits Fine Arts – 1 credit – (Algebra 2 required) Physical Education – 1 credit Science – 4 credits Health – .5 credits - (Spring ISD requirement) Social Studies – 3 credits Endorsement Electives – 6.5 credits

  9. What are ENDORSEMENTS? All 9 th grade students must have an Endorsement. • An Endorsement is a sequence of courses related to your interests. It is like selecting a major in college. • In Spring ISD, 8 th graders should identify their Career Pathway through the Exploring Careers course. • Once you identify your Career Pathway, it is easy to determine your Endorsement.

  11. Graduation Requirements: State Assessments The following 5 end-of-course (EOC) assessments are required : 9 th Grade English I Algebra I Biology 10 th Grade English II 11 th Grade US History You must pass each of the five EOC assessments to meet state graduation requirements.

Advanced Academics: Interdisciplinary Studies This course will provide gifted & talented (GT) students an opportunity to learn research methods, develop research skills, & explore in-depth areas of academic interest utilizing the Texas Performance Standards Project (TPSP). Identified GT scholars will enhance their creativity & leadership skills in preparation to showcase their products at the campus & district level Gifted & Talented Expo (GT Expo).

  18. A RT MS1 RT MS1 – BASIC This full-year course is an introduction to the basic elements of art, principles of design, art history, and art appreciation. Scholars design, develop, and create art using a variety of media. Both Art MS1 & Art MS2 are full year courses. Art MS1 is a prerequisite for Art MS2. Both Art MS1 & Art MS2 + Teacher Approval are prerequisites for Art I, the full year high school credit Art course in 8 th grade . Fees may apply for both courses ($10).

AVID AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) (Advancement Via Individual Determination) • This full year course is scheduled during the regular school day & prepares scholars for college readiness & success. • Each week, scholars receive instruction utilizing a rigorous college preparatory curriculum provided by the AVID Center, tutor-facilitated study groups, motivational activities, & academic success skills. • Students participate in activities focused on W riting, I nquiry, C ollaboration, O rganization, R eading ( WICOR ), character development, communication, & college preparedness to support academic growth

REQUIRES FULL YEAR COMMITMENT Beginning Band scholars will develop basic musical literacy skills while learning to play an instrument in preparation for a sequential experience in a full ensemble setting in subsequent years. All levels of Band scholars will develop ear training, individual, & ensemble instrument playing skills, tone production, & music reading in a full ensemble setting, individually, & in small groups. Scholars attend sectional technique classes, participate in numerous concerts, contests, & community performances. Instrument Purchase/Rental and Extra fees are required for Band enrollment. Final Band placements are determined upon audition and consultation with Band Director(s).

REQUIRES FULL YEAR COMMITMENT 6 th Grade Treble (Girls) & 6 th Grade Tenor/Bass (Boys) Choir scholars will learn choral reading techniques, ear training, vocal production, solfege, & basic theory. This is a full-year course that will develop ear training, individual & ensemble singing skills, vocal production, & music reading in a full ensemble setting & small groups. Students participate in numerous concerts, contests, community performances, & attend before/after school rehearsals. Choir courses are gender-specific.

  22. INTRODUCTION TO CAREERS INTRODUCTION TO CAREERS This 6 th grade elective course is designed to introduce scholars to career opportunities through career clusters & pathways in preparation for future studies, educational planning, & setting realistic goals. Cost: $5 Lab Fee

INTERNET COMPUTING, INTERNET COMPUTING, COMMUNICATION, COMMUNICATION, COLLABORATION (IC3) COLLABORATION (IC3) This 6 th grade semester elective is a local course designed to support 6th graders in gaining digital literacy & responsibly utilizing technology for academic success in future CTE courses. Scholars will receive instruction & practice in internet use, online safety, computer basics, email etiquette, media literacy, & computer languages/coding. Team-work & collaborative skills will be introduced. Cost: $5 lab fee

  24. • This course develops business, FULL YEAR professional, and leadership skills. COURSE Students learn the importance of principle-centered living, the importance of goals, how to handle peer pressure and communicate effectively. Students learn to build meaningful relationships and make responsible decisions. FULL YEAR COURSE
