4-H IS 4 U
4-H is a community of youth across America learning leadership, citizenship, and life skills. We’re glad you’re part of 4 -H! Once a 4-H family, always a 4-H family!
2018 Gage County Fair & Expo July 25-29, 2018 It’s a community celebration!
Does participation in county fairs make a difference in the lives of youth? According to a recent survey the answer is….. YES!! County fairs are the culmination and ultimate celebration of learning. Preparation for the county fair is an investment of time and energy that results in developing leadership skills, strong character, project-related skills, positive relationships, and other life skills. Add decision making, setting and reaching goals, and working as a family…it’s a winning combination!

Sport a Winning Attitude Good sportsmanship is an expectation. Competitive programs abound with “teachable moments.” It’s important that children (and adults) learn to be fair and generous competitors and realize the fair is only one piece of the educational experience. The six pillars of Character Counts! and sportsmanship go hand-in-hand. We hope you will promote good sportsmanship at the fair and all competitive and non- competitive events. “Sportsmanship makes good 4 - H members GREAT!” “It’s up to us to set the example, to teach children that sportsmanship and character building go hand-in- hand, at the fair and in life.”
Sport a Winning Attitude Trustworthiness -a good sport has integrity, is honest, loyal to friends, and keeps their promises. Respect -a good sport treats others the way they want to be treated, shows respect for judges and officials. Responsibility -a good sport is accountable for their actions and shows self-restraint. Fairness -a good sport treats people fairly and plays by the rules. Caring -a good sport shows concern and compassion for others. Citizenship -a good sport gives service to their community.

This We Believe 4-H kids are more important than 4-H projects There is more than one way of doing most things Our job is to teach youth HOW to think, not WHAT to think Every youth needs to feel important, to win, and be praised No award is worth sacrificing the reputation of a youth, adult or volunteer A blue ribbon youth with a red ribbon chicken is more desirable than a red ribbon youth with a blue ribbon chicken
