4/28/2017 Project Background The Town of Williston, with assistance from the CCRPC, is conducting a multimodal roadway corridor assessment along North Williston Road to evaluate the existing operating characteristics, identify opportunities and constraints for improvement, and propose preferred treatments for an improved transportation system. OUTCOME FOR THIS STUDY A clear and concise report that: - Documents traffic, safety, environmental, stormwater, and historic issues - Compiles the “spot studies” - Receives public input and support - Estimates the demands on North Williston Road into the future - Prepares an improvement plan to realize the community vision 4 Project Schedule We are here Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec Project Kickoff Existing Conditions Analysis Local Concerns Meeting M Alternatives Analysis Alternatives Presentation M Final Report Preferred Alternative M Selection Meeting 5 Draft Purpose and Need Statement Purpose To ensure that North Williston Road is a resilient travel corridor and all travelers, including vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists can travel safely and efficiently along the corridor. Need The need for this project is documented by: • Traffic demands exceeding the roadway’s initial design expectations coupled with termination of Circ. Highway alternative route; • Proposed reconstruction of River Road intersection, which may bring more traffic through the corridor; • Evidence of erosion and underperforming drainage structures; • North Williston Road identified as a bike route with no bicycle facilities; • Several separate spot studies with no coordinated plan; and • Continued regional land use development leading to North Williston Road as a significant regional traffic link. 6 2
