  1. Sea Grant and NOAA Central Region Collaboration Team Workshop Nutrient Runoff Risk Reduction: A Workshop to Explore Decision Support Tools University of Alabama Bryant Conference Center Birmingham Room January 31 - February 1, 2018 Agenda Meeting Objectives - Create an opportunity to share information on completed runoff risk tools for Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin and Minnesota as well as information on tools in development in Indiana, Illinois and New York. - Facilitate networking with Sea Grant, NOAA, and partners to strengthen and build relationships with a goal to enhance outreach and use of water quality management tools to states. - Foster relationships among Sea Grant, NWS, NOS, Water Center staff, and NOAA Regional Collaboration - Conduct a research prioritization process (based on water quality and resource management needs) to inform development of a competitive research funding opportunity to assess the ecosystem benefits of Runoff Risk tools. Tackling Barriers to Green Infrastructure - Julia Noordyk, Wisconsin 11:30 Afternoon Preview 12:00 Lunch 1:00 Break-Out Sessions 1. Research prioritization for competitive programs (Smith Room) Intention of session is to gain insight from attendees to inform development of a FY20 grant competition(s) to assess the effectiveness of nutrient runoff risk reduction tools in mitigating coastal ecosystem stressor (HABs, hypoxia) impacts. The session will explore the feasibility that 5-year project(s) beginning in Summer 3

  4. 2020 can culminate in a quantitative understanding of the effects of runoff risk forecast use on mitigating HABs or hypoxia through watershed nutrient reduction, or at least in development of management tools (models) with a demonstrated capability to quantitatively assess and predict mitigation benefits. 2. Communications and Outreach Activities (Birmingham Room) During this session, we will brainstorm and prioritize new potential collaboration opportunities between the upper and lower basin, identify key steps to ensure effective collaboration, and discuss best practices for ensuring effective integration of education and outreach into research projects. 2:45 Break 3:15 Break-Out Group Recap and Large Group Discussion 4:30 Wrap Up and Adjourn 4
