Fine Arts Requirement • You must earn 1.0 credit of a Fine Art to graduate. • This does not count as one of your 8 required electives. • Everything under Performing Arts and Visual Arts will count • Chorus, Band, AICE Music, Theatre, Dance, etc. Art 2-D, Creating 2/D art, Photography, etc. • ▶ Other courses that will count for the requirement: ⚫ Culinary Arts levels 2 or 3 ⚫ Early Childhood levels 2 or 3 ⚫ Marketing ⚫ Intro to Info Tech ⚫ Technical Design ⚫ Communication Technology

Physical Education Requirement How to Earn Your 1.0 PE Requirement .5 credit of Personal Fitness .5 credit of PE elective May take on FLVS or at Team Sports, Basketball, Wt Training, etc. WCHS Dance or Marching Band Waiver FLVS: Fitness Lifestyle and Design or Outdoor Education **Following the AICE Curriculum results in a Waiver placed by the School Counselor Senior Year

  7. Virtual School Requirement ❑ You must complete this requirement in order to graduate. ❑ You must complete an entire course. Some courses are only .5 credit, while others are 1.0 credit. You must take both semesters for a 1.0 credit class. ❑ Below are courses that students are generally able to finish within a semester and will count as your requirement. How Many Credits Do I Need to Be Promoted? ▶ You will be promoted to the next grade regardless of how many credits you earn. ▶ Most students earn 7 credits a year to graduate in 4 years with 28 credits. Remember, generally students need 24 to graduate. ▶ If you fail courses required for graduation, i.e. English, math, science, social studies, etc., you must earn the lost credits on your own time. ▶ Even if you are promoted, you will not graduate until the lost credits have been earned.

  9. Grade Forgiveness ▶ A required course can be forgiven by the same or a comparable course. ▶ A regular level academic course can be used to forgive a D or F earned in a like regular, honors, A.I.C.E. or A.P. course. ▶ If a D or F is earned on the retake, all attempts will be calculated. ▶ Some colleges count ALL attempts in their recalculation.

  10. ATTENDANCE & CREDITS ▶ If you miss More than 10% of course, you must pass at least one nine-week marking period and the semester exam to earn credit for that semester of the course. ▶ EOC Assessment course, you must earn a passing grade in the fourth nine-weeks, in order to earn credit for the class if too many absences are earned. ▶ “Block Periods”=“2 Absences”

  11. Periods “Off” 9th & 10th: 1 period for FLVS ONLY 11th: 2 Periods 12th: 3 periods - any combination if requirements are met ★ junior privilege (1 period only)/senior privilege (2 periods) ★ dual enrollment ★ executive internship ★ volunteer public service ★ FLVS

  13. ALL STUDENTS WHO WISH TO HAVE A PERIOD “OFF CAMPUS”

  14. Students who wish to have: ★ junior/senior privilege ★ executive internship ★ FLVS ★ voluntary public service MUST HAVE THEIR PARENT NOTARY SIGNED BY March 4th. No student will be given a period off campus without one signed.

  15. Want a Parking Pass Next Year? You must have: ❏ online credit earned ❏ 20 hours community service logged and entered ❏ Unweighted 2.0 GPA

  16. Course Selection Process Step 1: 2/18 - 2/21 Counselors meet with students and share the course request sheet and graduation requirements. Step 2: 2/18 - 3/1 Teachers make academic recommendations in SIS; students get necessary signatures from teachers. Students also choose electives in SIS. Parents can review through the student’s portal. Step 3: 3/4 - 3/8 Counselors meet with students individually through social studies/science to review and approve courses. Schedules are then locked.

  17. Course Selection Sheet • Make sure you fill out the entire course selection sheet by numbering your electives 1-7 • Individual reviews will be March 4 th – 8 th . • Please do not rush to see your counselor. You can make changes to your schedule until the end of the school year.

Asterisks ** on Course Selection Sheet ▶ When you get the course selection sheet, there will be asterisks by certain classes. ▶ Asterisks mean that you will need a teacher’s approval to take this class. ▶ You may not select these classes on the SIS gateway. ▶ Have teachers sign the sheet and take the sheet to a school counselor during individual meetings. ▶ The school counselor will input the classes that are signed for you.

  22. To Finalize this three week process: 1. You will be invited back to review your courses with a counselor the week of March 4th through social studies (10th & 11th) or science (9th) classes. 2. If you do not have a social studies class (10th or 11th) or a science class (9th), please go by your student support center over the next two weeks and complete a request to see your counselor. 3. You will be seen by appointment as soon as possible.

University Recommendations, not requirements: ▶ 3 + years of the same language ▶ 4+ years of math if Algebra I credit was earned in 8 th grade ▶ 4 years of science, even though only 3 are needed for graduation ▶ Honors, A.I.C.E., and/or A.P. level courses taken whenever possible without compromising G.P.A.

  25. Dual Enrollment What are the benefits? ▪ ▪ Earn college credit while in high school. Credits count toward college and high school. DE is FREE while you are in high school. Earning credit may help you save money for college. ▪ ▪ Helps you build a more competitive academic profile for colleges if you do well. How do you qualify? ▪ ▪ You must speak with your guidance counselor You must be in 10 th , 11 th or 12 th grade. ▪ You must have a 3.0 GPA and college ready test scores ▪ What is Early Admission? ▪ You must be a senior with college ready test scores and a 3.2 unweighted GPA to participate. ▪ ▪ You enroll full time your senior year in college classes at PBSC, while still remaining a Wellington student. ▪ You must be recommended by principal and guidance counselor. Considerations ▪ ▪ You will be starting your official college GPA. Not doing well in a class could impact your admission to colleges and your eligibility for Florida Bright Futures. ▪ Earning a D or F may disqualify you from continuing the Dual Enrollment program.
