  1. 2019 HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS LUNCHEON WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED LATELY: BY SERVPRO DISASTER RECOVERY TEAM

  2. SERVPRO DISASTER RECOVERY TEAM JOSH MARAZZITO • LARGE LOSS/CATASTROPHE RESPONSE COORDINATOR • SPECIALIZES IN LARGE LOSS RESPONSE PROJECTS THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF FLORIDA AND THE SOUTHEAST, INCLUDING CAT EVENTS IN FL, TX, AL, MS, GA,AR, NC AND SC

  3. WHAT 2018 TAUGHT US • TYPES OF DAMAGE FROM HURRICANES CAN VARY • SEVERE INLAND DAMAGE IS POSSIBLE • DIFFERENT DAMAGE CREATES DIFFERENT NEEDS • WIDESPREAD EVENTS POSE LARGER PROBLEMS • ISOLATED EVENT CREATED BIGGER PROBLEMS • MULTIPLE EVENTS CREATED MAYHEM • RESOURCES AND LABOR ARE AT A PREMIUM

  4. VIDEO • THIS IS A PROJECT THAT SHOWS JUST HOW BAD THE DAMAGE WAS 15 MILES INLAND. WE PERFORMED THIS PROJECT IN 17 DAYS.

  5. TORNADO • CAN CAUSE MAJOR DAMAGE • ROOF DAMAGE WITH AC REMOVAL • WINDOWS BLOWN OUT • RESULTING IN WATER DAMAGE • DEBRIS ACROSS CAMPUS

  6. FLOOD • CATEGORY 3 CONTAMINATED WATER • MAJOR IMPACTS IN LARGE AREAS • THIS CAUSED MOST OF THE DAMAGE IN TEXAS • CAUSED BY SYSTEM SITTING OVER ONE AREA FOR A PROLONGED TIME • MORE DEMO THAN OTHER TYPES OF DAMAGE

  7. WIND DRIVEN RAIN • MOSTLY CATEGORY 1 OR 2 WATER DAMAGE • SHORTER DOWN TIME BECAUSE OF REMEDIATION TECHNIQUES REQUIRED • AREAS AFFECTED CAN VARY GREATLY IN SIZE AND DAMAGE EXTENT • OFTEN CREATED BY WINDOW SEEPAGE

  8. ROOF DAMAGE • MOST OF WORK WE PERFORMED FROM IRMA • HEAVY WINDS MOVED AC UNITS CREATING HOLES OR PEELED BACK COVERINGS • ALLOWED WATER FROM TOP TO BOTTOM OF BUILDINGS

  9. MAJOR RESIDENTIAL DAMAGE • ROOF LEAKS IMPACTING THOUSANDS OF HOMES • NOT MOVING FAST ENOUGH CAUSED MOLD VERY QUICKLY • VERY UNIQUE CHALLENGES ON MILITARY BASE

  10. Storm Surge • TREATED SIMILARLY TO FLOOD WATER • CAUSES DAMAGE FROM WATER BUT ALSO SAND AND OCEANIC DEBRIS • CAUSES DAMAGE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF BUILDING • CAN BE COMBINED WITH OTHER WIND RELATED DAMAGE

  11. AFTER THE STORM • HAVE AN EMERGENCY RECOVERY PLAN! • EMERGENCY ACTION TEAMS ON SITE • ATTEMPT TO MITIGATE LOSSES • PATROL PROPERTY ONLY WHEN SAFE TO DO SO • MONITOR SYSTEMS THAT MUST REMAIN ON-LINE • TURN OFF ELECTRICAL SWITCHES IN A POWER FAILURE

  12. AFTER THE STORM • BES SURE IT IS SAFE TO ENTER THE FACILITY • NOTIFICATION TO INSURANCE PARTNER • TAKE PHOTOS AND DOCUMENT LOSSES • EVALUATE FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS AND OTHER SAFETY HAZARDS • CONTACT KEY PERSONNEL • CONDUCT SAFETY INSPECTIONS
