Section Activities Outside of the Annual Meeting Develop a mentoring program • Encourage experienced teachers to share • teaching materials and post to your Section’s webpage Publish a Section newsletter • Hold a call for papers • Recruit promising scholars to join your • Section’s leadership Hold informal networking event(s) in • addition to your regular annual meeting program Host a webinar using AALS’s Zoom account • or your institution’s own web conference technology Association of American Law Schools
Elections Sections can hold elections at an in-person • business meeting at the Annual Meeting or via a virtual election prior to the meeting. Only faculty and professional staff of • member schools are eligible to be officers. Section chairs may serve for two • consecutive years, but then may not serve again for another five years or may serve a one year term and not serve again for another 6 years. AALS Section of the Year Award Nominations for 2019 SOTY Award will open in • March Awarded to Sections that promote AALS’s core • values, including, for example: facilitating outstanding scholarship • providing teaching support and course materials • expanding membership and member • engagement creative use of technology, community/pro bono • service engagement with the bar and bench, and • mentoring programs A Section that wins the award is not eligible to • win it again for at least another 5 years Association of American Law Schools
New: Section L Liaisons • Section Liaisons have been assigned to some Sections to support you this year • Liaisons are from AALS Staff, Committee on Sections members, and Executive Committee members • We will continue to add liaisons throughout the year as needed or by request Association of American Law Schools
