  5. ENERGY EFFICIENCY PROGRAM FOR BUSINESS Program Overview 5

  6. Program Overview Deadlines • The Program Year ends Nov. 30 o No Reservations will be extended beyond Nov. 30 o Final Applications must be submitted within 60 days of project completion date or Nov. 30, whichever comes first o Incomplete Final Applications may be subject to cancellation o Any Application submitted after Nov. 30 may be cancelled • Watch the gauges 30 6

  7. Program Overview Impact of our Program Since 2009: $166 million incentives paid. 50,000 projects completed. 7

  8. Program Overview Impact of our Program Since 2009 - savings: o 7,000 GWh in electricity o 19 million Mcf in natural gas o $500 million in total energy costs Energy savings = 5 million tons of CO 2 not being pumped into the atmosphere *Household data based on estimates from the U.S. Energy Information Administration. *CO 2 calculations based on U.S. Environmental Protection Agency guidelines. 8

  9. Program Overview For a customer to receive incentives • The business/project must: o Be a DTE utility customer o Be a capital investment resulting in energy efficiency o Involve new products that meet specifications o Have a meter on eligible rate schedule* o Be in good standing with DTE Energy o Not be a Residential or Multifamily customer *A special agriculture program is available for those on a residential meter 9

  10. Program Overview A customer can’t receive incentives if: o Customer is self-direct (has opted out) o It’s a load-shifting/demand-limiting project o It’s a fuel switching project o It’s a renewable energy/on-site generation project o It involves power quality improvements o It only involves operational/maintenance changes 10 10

  11. Program Overview Three Types of Projects •Defined measures for 1-for-1 upgrades Prescriptive •Projects don’t fit a prescriptive approach Custom •New facilities/renovations of facilities New Construction •Change of use Major Renovation •Adding load 11 11

  12. Program Overview Three Types of Incentives •Defined incentives: Prescriptive o Per item/kWh/Mcf energy saved •Calculated incentives: Custom o Per-kWh/Mcf of energy saved •Systems Approach: New Construction o Defined per item/kWh/Mcf energy saved Major Renovation •LEED Whole Building: o Based on LEED certification 12 12

  13. Program Overview Project Reservations • Required for some measures; highly Prescriptive recommended for all measures • Required for all projects Custom New Construction • Highly recommended for all projects Major Renovation Do NOT start your project until you receive a Reservation Letter* *Could take 4-6 weeks to receive the letter 13 13

  14. Program Overview How they work ELECTRIC • Lighting • HVAC Prescriptive • Miscellaneous • Process • Food Service Prescriptive Incentives NATURAL GAS • Hot Water & Laundry • Pre-determined measures • HVAC with specific energy savings • Insulation and cash incentives in the • Process categories of electric and gas • Food Service • Boiler/Furnace Tune-up 14 14

  15. Program Overview How they work Custom Incentives •Capital investment projects that are NOT eligible for a Prescriptive incentive may qualify Custom •Custom incentives are determined on a case-by-case basis and are paid per-kWh or per-Mcf saved o Examples include: Heat recovery § § Lighting retrofits not 1-for-1 15 15

  16. Program Overview How they work • Systems Approach o Prescriptive incentives New Construction • LEED Whole Building Approach Major Renovation o Based on three levels of LEED certification • LEED Design Review Assistance o $1,500 for LEED project certification More on New Construction later in this presentation 16 16
