(2014). A return visit was made to Cranleigh UK in 2016, - PowerPoint PPT Presentation

Cranleigh Music department was the flag-bearer for collaborations between the three schools when they took the first trip to Abu Dhabi in the year that the school opened (2014). A return visit was made to Cranleigh UK in 2016,

  1. • Cranleigh Music department was the flag-bearer for collaborations between the three schools when they took the first trip to Abu Dhabi in the year that the school opened (2014). • A return visit was made to Cranleigh UK in 2016, highlights of which included the Big Band Supper Dance, Contemporary Music Evening and Lunchtime Concert. • Moving forwards, we would like to extend the collaboration to embrace the Performing Arts (Music, Drama & Dance), in order to allow a wider opportunity for all pupils to collaborate in 2020.

  2. • Richard Saxel visited CAD in November 2019 to discuss plans with Mike Wilson (Headmaster), Jo Lee (Director of Performing Arts) & relevant staff • Visit to Louvre Abu Dhabi • Visit to various hotels to explore safeguarding issues • Initial open invitation sent December 2019 to all pupils from CPS Form 5 upwards • 50 expressions of interest • Deadline for deposit will be 31 st January (to mitigate against rising costs of flights)

  3. • A Torah, Bible, Quran and sacred Sutra scrolls are showcased side by side • Christian stained glass windows next to Islamic lanterns • A statuette of an Egyptian God nursing her son next to the Virgin Mary and Jesus • Based on chronology rather than geography or civilization…celebrates cultural exchange, and highlights how interconnected we have always been.

  4. Three schools, one week, unlimited ideas Contrast

  5. • Must be open-minded, willing to work hard and to try new things • Have a genuine interest in global culture, and a desire to learn about other cultures, and to appreciate differences (and similarities) • Be curious about other forms of Art • Use their skills in unusual and different ways • Be open about sharing their ideas, and willing to contribute

  6. • An increased awareness of global culture • The opportunity to collaborate with children from other cultural backgrounds • The experience of creating new artistic work from first principles • Exposure to significant modern Middle Eastern cultural sites • The opportunity to immerse themselves purely in the Performing Arts for a few days • Leadership opportunities and the chance to make new friends

  7. • Four star hotel in the city centre • Breakfast in designated dining area, onsite café without leaving the building • Attached to the Marina Mall, which has shops, a cinema, and a food court with dozens of different options for evening meals • Attached to the modern indoor Arab souk (market) • Close to Cranleigh Abu Dhabi (10 minute coach transfer) • Walking distance to the beach

  8. • Impossible for children to access alcohol – anywhere in Abu Dhabi! • Twin rooms with single beds and ensuite bathrooms • Rooms will be allocated in pods, with a member of staff close by, and younger children will be in a designated area under close supervision • Abu Dhabi is extremely safe, but this location ensures that children do not need to leave the hotel for any reason, and do not need to cross roads at all to access shops, food, the cinema, or the Arab souk • Full hotel security, including lifeguards on permanent duty at the pool

  9. • Breakfast in the hotel: designated area. • Lunch at Cranleigh Abu Dhabi • Evening meal: pupils will be given £15 cash each evening to spend in any one of dozens of designated food courts in the Marina Mall, attached to the hotel. These food outlets serve hot or cold meals ready prepared, representing the full range of global cuisine. • There is a central dining area for the food court, and staff will supervise throughout. • Younger children will be supervised at all times!
