2010 Equalities Act
Since the 1970s there have been lots of different laws passed in Parliament to stop different groups of people being treated unfairly
In 2010 the Government brought all these together in the Equalities Act
In March this year a House of Lords Select Committee did a report about how things were going with the Equality Act as it effected Disabled people.
The Select Committee asked a lot of different groups for their views
The Select Committee said that the Government is failing in its duty of care to disabled people and recommends actions for the government to make this better. It asked organisations and people for their views. They got 144 replies.
Some of the things the Select Committee Report said were : It is harder now for Disabled people to use the law to get their rights
No one is checking what is happening with the Law
Most carers did not know that the Act covers them ? ?
What are our ideas? What needs to happen to make the Law work better?
