“You foolish Galatians! Who has cast a spell on you…” Galatians 3:1
“Either make the tree good and its fruit will be good or make the tree bad and its fruit will be bad; for a tree is known by its fruit . You brood of vipers! How can you speak good things when you are evil?” Matthew 12:33–35
“For the mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart. A good person produces good things from their storeroom of good, and an evil person produces evil things from their storeroom of evil…” Matthew 12:33–35
PEACE
Biblical peace is trying to point us to something much greater—something that will take the place of conflict.
Unfortunately, peace can seem like only an idea; an unattainable goal of escaping the complicated and complex things of our broken world.
Sin has created a brokenness rooted so deep in Creation, it can feel as if there is no hope of ever escaping it.
You are experiencing the brokenness in this world that tranquility, calmness, and serenity cannot and will not fix.
Jesus is the perfect picture of peace.
“For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace …. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now on and forever .” Isaiah 9:6–7
“Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: Today in the city of David a Savior was born for you, who is the Messiah , the Lord.” Luke 2:10–11
PEACE VERTICALLY AND HORIZONTALLY
“Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: Today in the city of David a Savior was born for you, who is the Messiah , the Lord.” Luke 2:10–11
“Since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.” Romans 5:1
“If you love me, you will keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever . He is the Spirit of truth. The world is unable to receive Him because it doesn’t see Him or know Him. But you do know Him, because He remains with you and will be in you…” John 14:15–27
“The Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you. “‘ Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you .’” John 14:15–27
I will pour out my Spirit on all humanity. Joel 2:28
“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. I will place my Spirit within you and cause you to follow my statutes and carefully observe my commands.” Ezekiel 36:26–27
True peace requires taking what has been broken and restoring it whole.
CULTIVATING THE HABITS OF THE HEART
“For if anyone thinks highly of themselves, they deceive themselves. Let each person examine their own work…and not compare themselves with someone else…. Do not be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a person sows they will also reap , because the one who sows to their flesh will reap destruction from the flesh…” Galatians 6:3–10
“…but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit. Therefore, let us not get tired of doing good , for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up…especially for those who belong to the household of faith.” Galatians 6:3–10
How are you cultivating Christ-like habits in your heart?
