A mechanism to close the implementation gap 1
WWF proposal : present, review, ratchet (and repeat) Present : putting forward national biodiversity actions based on strengthened 1 NBSAPs aligned with the post-2020 global biodiversity framework and its global targets. Review : reviewing the implementation of the framework with updated 2 national reports , and then regularly assessing progress during a global biodiversity stocktake . Ratchet : strengthening the delivery of biodiversity plans and actions, to 3 progressively close the implementation gap . 2

The implementation mechanism, an integral part of the post-2020 framework: some suggestions Provide significant space for implementation, including the implementation mechanism, 1 in the discussions and negotiations for the adoption of the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. Use the thematic consultation to: - Outline the key components of an effective implementation mechanism to be delivered at COP15 ; 2 - Ensure a shared understanding on terminologies pertaining to the implementation mechanism; - Lay out a clear roadmap on how best to use the in-sessional and inter-sessional period to achieve concrete deliverables at COP15. Connect the implementation mechanism to the other aspects of implementation , 3 including resource mobilization and stakeholder engagement. 5
