THE MESSAGE OF HSH PRINCE ALBERT II ON THE OCCASION OF THE 40TH FESTIVAL ANNIVERSARY. Ladies and gentlemen, dear friends, This is with great regrets I cannot be among you today on the occasion of the 40th Ekotopfilm festival. I remember with emotion my participation in 2006 because I had the honor of being one of its award recipients. 2006 - the year I launched the foundation that bears my name and where many of my initiatives took shape. Seven years later my foundation has taken off, and led to over 200 projects worldwide in three key areas, which are: climate, water and biodiversity. Over and above these personal memories are the goals and philosophy of the Ekotopfilm festival, which I consider of key importance – to share, educate and to explore solutions. But also to convince and to appeal. Missions it undertakes are crucial – face with the challenges of protecting our Planet and the need to alert our contemporaries. To achieve these goals the power of image is irreplaceable. It is capable of talking to each one of us about general issues, of giving concrete dimension to abstract problems and of raising our awareness of issues that sometimes seem far away. One of Ekotopfilm‘s great merits is to showcase these films and to generate new audience. In addition to the film selection I would also like to mention the capacity of the organizers to bring together public and private sectors, as well as NGOs. Ekotopfilm creates essential bridges between players who need to learn of how to better work together in order to address common challenges. Celebrating its 40th anniversary, to be the age of maturity the Ekotopfilm festival popularity has proven year after year its relevance while many similar initiatives have blossomed across the globe over the past 40 years. The success above all proves the value of the innovative spirit that is your driving force. Forty years ago those who believed that the environment would be one of the key issues of the 21st century were indeed extremely rare. In this century that needs to address some of the greatest challenges since the emergence of our civilization, I believe that this innovative spirit is more than ever necessary. It is through intelligence, baldness and innovation that humanity will be able to continue to progress. Cinema also brings its contribution to unite good will to save the environment. It is my hope therefore that your jubilee reaffirms this success and renews these promises so that Ekotopfilm is able to continue to gather countries and always more forces involved in the major endeavors to save our Planet. Thank you. Ekotopfilm Festival I the message of HSH Prince Albert II on the occasion of the 40th festival anniversary. 4
