Who we are Core Partnership Staff 2300+ people reached in Delivery Partners Year 1
Who we are… • The Time to Shine project is the result of a team effort, the team includes: – Staff team - 6 people ( 5 Full-time equivalents) – Core Partnership (20 members) – Delivery partners (15 DP’s in Year 1) – Supporting/ working with 2300 people • A huge amount of work so far on developing monitoring and governance structures
One-to-One Support Raat di Roti More than a Mealtime Walk with Me CARA Walking with Confidence
One to one support… • We have five projects working specifically on a one to one basis • The main learning so far: It takes a lot of time and effort to engage very isolated older people and there is a likelihood of disengagement and often a need for additional referrals. Volunteer recruitment is difficult and volunteer-led projects face challenges. A lot depends on getting the match right. A wrong match can really set a person back. Relationships blossom where there is reciprocity, we all have a gift to give Using the language of loneliness is difficult – euphemisms are common
Strengthening Communities Seniors’ Network A.G.E. Community Connect Lychee Red Chinese Seniors Streetlinks Time to Shine BME Networks
Community level support… • We have five projects work on a community level, using an Asset Based Community Development approach. The Main learning so far… Flexibility and listening to what people want and need i.e. Community Connect have done a lot of work in the community hubs to identify how the model could work in each area.
Wider Reaching Impact Sage Young at Arts Digital Inclusion Local Evaluation Small Funds
Wider reaching impact.. We have five projects working on a city-wide or wider community level. The main learning – Time to develop referral pathways Identifying priorities and goal setting (milestones) Importance of partnership working Tackling the need across the city can be difficult, need to prioritise
Wider Reaching: Age-Friendly Work and Learning Facilitation Awareness Raising Consultation Intergenerational Skill Sharing
Wider reaching work cont. • Age Friendly – o Worked hard to consult with older people about what they feel would make Leeds a city for all ages. Developing an Older People’s Charter to be published soon. • Learning – o Again consulted with older people to begin to identify the causes and effects of loneliness and spread the learning on ways this can be reduced.
Overarching learning • Wider Learning from the TTS project in the first year: New projects take longer than expected to get going Social Isolation is a very personal journey and the experience of the individual can be very different Projects working hard to try and identify the most Socially Isolated, time taken to develop trust etc. This may mean a lot of groundwork undertaken before the Older Person engages We are working hard to work alongside Older People, but realise that full co-production on all levels of the project hasn’t been fully achieved
Looking forward
Future plans • New projects coming on board in Autumn 2016; – Supporting Wellbeing (with match funding from all Three Clinical Commissioning Groups) – Learning Disability Community Development – Future Small funds rounds, managed by Leeds Community Foundation • Evaluation – – PHD student will join the team in October with a focus on co-production – Report from local evaluators due in Autumn 2016
