  4. Dear Candidate Thank you for taking the time to consider applying for a position at Whipton Barton Federation. We are two schools and a nursery serving a large housing estate on the eastern edge of Exeter. We are part of the Ted Wragg Multi-Academy Trust, comprising seven Exeter schools, with the shared belief that all children irrespective of their starting points, have the capacity to be outstanding. Our federation has approximately 385 pupils on roll across KS1 and 2 and around 100 in the nursery. Forty-seven percent of these children are in receipt of free school meals and we have a high number of pupils with a wide range of additional needs. As you might suppose, there is never a dull day in our schools and that is why we need the very best teachers, committed to giving our children the very best start in life. We are looking for teachers who do not recognise disadvantage as a barrier to success and who want to make a difference to the lives of children from all backgrounds. Successful candidates will benefit from excellent support from colleagues in the federation and across the trust, will have the privilege of working with great children and will be lucky enough to be working in Exeter, the capital city of Devon. 5. Dear candidate Here at Whipton Barton there are many activities and ventures which give all children opportunities to make the best of their time at school. With multiple choices of clubs to suit any interests, from sports to craft and music and technology, children have numerous things to try out. Our lessons have as much variety as our clubs, including English and Mathematics which are challenging and fun. We also have a range of other subjects that will inspire children to want to know more. At Whipton Barton, we have OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) which sparks children’s imagination by giving them objects such as wooden panels, wheel-barrows, rope and guttering etc, to perform any games they like , within the school’s health and safety policy. Every Friday we have Celebration Assembly. This is where we share children’s hard work and award certificates and Headteacher’s Awards. Parents can attend these too and are notified if their child has been chosen. The teachers play an important role in the school, preparing a range of events. As well as lessons, these include guitar and drumming sessions and trips such as the London residential and camping on Dartmoor. They are enthusiastic and welcoming and will help those children who need it to receive special care as well as challenging pupils to achieve greater depth in their learning. At Whipton Barton Federation, everybody is equal. Amy – Y6 pupil.

  6. Hello I’m writing to tell you about life in Whipton Barton Infant and Nursery School. If you come to this school you can learn about exciting things like space and climate change. We went to Plymouth Aquarium and we saw a Megalodon tooth. We recorded a charity single about saving the planet. The BBC came and recorded it and it was on the news! There are lots of clubs in our school like pottery, gymnastics and multi-sports. My favourite is pottery because we get to make different things and paint them. We have a running track and in year two you can run the Daily Mile. Playtimes are fun on the playground and we even get to play on the field at lunchtime. I love this school and if you came here you would love it too. Riley – Y2 pupil

  7. We believe ...  That with high quality teaching and the right support, all children can achieve well  That high standards will be achieved through a broad and engaging curriculum  That our children deserve the best teachers and that we will support our teachers to be the best  That disadvantage and SEND are not barriers to success  That we are a fully inclusive federation with a “no permanent exclusion” commitment  That we are all responsible for the safety and wellbeing of our children

  8. Ted Wragg Multi-Academy Trust: We joined TWMAT on March 1 st 2019. We are now part of an influential and aspirational trust, committed to raising standards for all Exeter’s children. The trust is built on the values of the late Ted Wragg, Professor of Education at Exeter University from 1978 to 2003. Exeter Consortium and Teaching School Alliance: Working in partnership, Exeter Consortium and Exeter Teaching School Alliance are training the next generation of teachers, improving the quality of teaching, raising the attainment of pupils and closing the gap between different groups of pupils. As a member of staff at Whipton Barton, you will benefit from a wide range of training opportunities. Teach First: Teach First believes that the inequality that exists in our education system inequality is entirely solvable. Everything they do is aimed at making inequality a thing of the past. Teach First recruits and supports the training of the country’s best graduates who, like us, believe that disadvantage should be no barrier to success. South West Teaching School Alliance: SWTSA is an alliance of thirty-nine schools across the south west of England. Teaching Schools provide the opportunity for all schools to learn from the very best. They have a leading role in the training and professional development of teachers, support staff, and school leaders, in addition to contributing to the raising of standards through school-to-school support.

  9. Devon – simply a fantastic place to live. With two stunning national parks, two rugged coastlines and two thriving cities, Devon has something for everyone. Whether it is music, history, food or for the more energetic, walking, cycling, climbing or surfing on some of the UK’s best waves, our county has it all.

  10. And finally … Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you decide to submit an application, you will be making a choice to be part of a team committed to improving outcomes for our children. We have started this journey and we welcome you to join us.
