MassBespoke ™ A BRIEF OVERVIEW
MassBespoke ™ Buildings by their very nature are bespoke and their individual recurring design requirements have restricted the technological advancements which can be made when compared to those in mass-production, where high development costs are offset against large unit volumes. In a new era of systematisation, mass-bespoke sets out to bring the benefits of mass- production to bespoke building construction.
WHAT WE ARE WORKING TOWARDS Automated process of generating complex, bespoke assemblies in BIM Allows different building forms to be generated quickly and easily Designed for direct production with CNC Accurately produced and designed to be efficiently assembled Prefabricated through a distributed network of manufacturers Integrating 3 rd party / Tier2 suppliers – with advantage of consistency from outset A platform that will provide a route to market
PROTO- PROTO- TYPE Mk1 TYPE Mk2 [Summer 2013] [Autumn 2011] • Straight from BIM model to full size • Fully parametrically fabrication of parts generated components overnight • Over 95% accurate with no • 378 Parts assembled defects due to drawing into 12 panels issues • Full assembly tested • Improved panel concept prior to site delivery with self jigging design • Ground works and any • structure in place, Automated part checked and ready numbering system receive superstructure • Fully insulated habitable • Superstructure erected building! in one day to watertight enclosure • Zero tolerance avoided lead time problems • Definitely a market for it! Why Mass- Bespoke™? 1. As architects we were frustrated by disconnected design & production processes that were restrictive, expensive and wasteful. Coupled with ever increasing requirements for complexity this was becoming an acute problem. 2. In 2011 we felt there were potential opportunities arising from the wide-scale adoption of BIM and CNC processes. We realised that a third process, parametrics, would be required to fully exploit them.
