What can language learning do for me?
Why might it be important for YOU to learn another language? • You have enjoyed some or all of what you have learned in Y7-Y9 and would like to continue developing your ability to speak French or Spanish • It helps to improve your interpersonal skills • You develop an empathy for people from different cultural backgrounds • Develops your confidence • Improves problem-solving skills • It will make your CV stand out from the crowd. • It shows employers that you have the ability to master another language e.g. Arabic , Farsi or Mandarin in the armed services

Far more girls than boys opted for a language at GCSE However, the boys taking a GCSE Language are far more likely top continue to A-level than in other Sheffield schools Y13 Spanish – 5 boys , 3 girls Y11 Spanish – 2 girls and 8 boys intend to take A-level Spanish

What will I study and how is it assessed? • Continue to develop the 4 skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing • Develop a more detailed understanding of grammar which can also help your written accuracy in English • Learn more about the culture and customs in France and French speaking countries or Spain and Latin America • No coursework. • 4 Exams in May 2022. Each 25% • Towards the end of Y11 you decide with your teacher whether to enter Foundation tier (Grades 1-5) or Higher (4-9)
