Reopening of Schools Update June 26 ● The NJDOE provided guidance to school districts to assist in the process of reopening schools. ● Schools can open in some capacity for in-person instruction and operations in the Fall. ● Guidance provides a set of standards, strategies, and safety measures for schools to follow. ● Must prepare for any adjustments in our educational plan should guidelines change as we get closer to the start of school. The Road Back: Restart and Recovery Plan for Education
NJDOE “Accordingly, absent a shift in the public health data, school buildings will open in some capacity for in-person instruction and operations in the Fall” (The Road Back).
NJDOE “To that end, each district will be expected to develop, in collaboration with community stakeholders, a plan to reopen schools in the Fall that best fits the district’s local needs” (The Road Back).

Social Emotional Learning ● Students and staff returning for the 2020-2021 school year will be faced with new and intimidating routines and circumstances. ● Challenges must be addressed head-on to ensure that social and emotional learning are infused into everyday school life . ● Provide time and space for individuals to process traumatic events, re-establish connections with each other, and receive support that promotes their healing. ● Support students and staff in feeling safe, connected, and hopeful.
School Climate & Culture ● Students and staff need to feel cared for, reengaged, and acclimated to the school community. ● Prioritize the health and emotional well-being of staff and students. ● Assess the school climate to identify vulnerabilities and plan to address identified needs. ● Plan to provide and sustain instruction on social norms, relationship building, and behavioral expectations.
