Graduation Requirements ● 130 credits - enrolled in 35 per year ● Passing score in MCAS for Biology, Math, ELA ● Our Program of Studies will prepare your students for College Admission requirements ● Plan for the four years
Helpful Hints ● DHS Grading Scale (65 is passing) ● Calculation of final grades (20% Q, 10% Ex) ● GPA - weighted and unweighted ● Courses taken outside of DHS ● Course changes ● Make academics the priority ● Get help - plan to stay after school
DHS offers over 80 clubs/ activities and over 30 varsity and sub varsity athletic teams
User Fees Co-Curricular Fee--$110.00 (for all students who participate, pay once, good for as many clubs as you want, online payment.) Athletic User Fee--$250 per sport with family cap $1250
Lunch Schedule ● 4 lunch periods during 4th block ● Students eat according to their floor of the building (first floor - first lunch, etc.)

Important Procedural Matters at DHS
DHS Student Handbook
iLab = Directed Study ● Self-Directed learning opportunity for students to work individually and collaboratively. ● Students will be arranged by grade in a non- alphabetized order ● Student will remain in assigned iLab group for the entire year.
Attendance Procedure - Unexcused Absences ● Allowed 10 unexcused absences - full year course ● Allowed 5 unexcused absences - half year course ● Loss of credit occurs on the 11th (full) and 6th (half) absence in a class ● Warning letters are sent home at 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 10th unexcused class absence
Attendance Procedure - Excused vs. Unexcused Excused Absences: awarded under the following circumstances ● Medical excuse ● Bereavement or serious family illness ● Legal excuse ● Religious Holidays ● College Visits (11th and 12th grade only) ● Other - at discretion of administrator Documentation to verify must be submitted to the main office within 10 days of the student’s return to school. Notes from parents do not suffice to excuse an absence.
Tardiness ● Warning bell rings at 8:15 (No homeroom) ● Tardy bell rings at 8:20 ● Allowed 5 unexcused tardies per semester ● Additional unexcused tardies result in progressive disciplinary consequences ● Excused tardies are awarded for the same reasons as excused absences ● Documentation to excuse must be submitted by end of next school day.
Tardiness ● “20-minute rule” ○ unexcused tardy to school that exceeds 20 minutes (8:40 a.m) ○ student is ineligible to participate in co-curricular activities (includes athletics) for the day ○ also counts as an unexcused class absence ● “Extreme Tardiness” ○ students arriving unexcused after 9:15 a.m. ○ need parental verification before being sent to class (phone call, note) ○ email cannot be accepted
Mid Year and Final Exams ● End of each semester (Jan. 14-17, 2020 and tentatively June 10-12 &15, 2020) ● Count as 10% of final grade ● Excused absence required to make up the exam ● Be mindful when planning trips, especially in June ● Summer jobs, athletic camps do not qualify as excused absences
Visitor Access During the Day ● Shared entrance for DHS/DMS ● All visitors must have ID and get visitor badge ● No ability to drop-off co-curricular and athletic equipment. This must be done at the end of day. ● Lunches must be walked down to cafeteria drop- off table. ● Parents/Visitors with scheduled appointments will be buzzed in to office to sign ● Call ahead process to Guidance/Nurse/DMS/ Athletics
